A peek inside Flight Accident Coverage
November 24th, 2008Peter, EVP
For many folks, purchasing a flight accident policy before they venture out on a trip provides tremendous peace of mind and is a very inexpensive investment. Did you know however, that flight accident protection is one of three coverage variations within the Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) coverage form? Indeed, the AD&D coverage form is composed of three distinct coverages:
24 Hour AD&D: This coverage provides protection from the moment that you depart on your trip to the moment that you return. This is the broadest protection that is available within the AD&D form as it provides 24 hour coverage.
Common Carrier AD&D: This coverage provides protection during your trip while you are a passenger on a common carrier either on land, sea or air or boarding/debarking any of these conveyances.
Flight Accident AD&D: This coverage provides protection during your trip while you are a passenger on a regularly scheduled airline or boarding/debarking the flight as well.
Many trip cancellation package plans and travel medical policies include some of these coverages within their offerings. You can also buy these on a stand alone basis. Currently we offer flight accident AD&D on a stand alone guaranteed issue basis and we are exploring a number of ideas to offer a broader selection of AD&D products as well.
