Weather, natural disasters and travel insuranceMarch 2nd, 2010
John, Customer Care Manager
The recent earthquakes, snowstorms and other natural disasters triggered an increase in calls to our customer care staff with questions about how travel insurance responds. The following highlights some features offered by most of our Package Policies. Coverage applies to both pre-departure Trip Cancellation and post-departure Trip Interruption:
- Your accommodation at your destination made uninhabitable by fire, flood, volcano, earthquake, hurricane or other natural disaster
- Your home made uninhabitable by fire, flood, volcano, earthquake, hurricane or other natural disaster
- Inclement weather causing a complete cessation of services of your common carrier
Since specific coverage differs by policy, make sure to view the coverage details prior to purchase or, if you prefer, speak to one of our licensed customer care representatives. As always, travel insurance covers unforeseen events so be sure to secure your insurance well in advance of your actual travel dates.
