Confused about your travel insurance benefits?April 21st, 2010
Jim, CEO and President
Like me I’m sure you’ve noticed the plethora of news stories talking about how travel insurance is coming to the aid of many travelers impacted by the erupting Icelandic volcano and subsequent airline groundings. In fact, right now there’s so much information out there even my travel insurance-trained head is spinning.
Here’s what it boils down to: Most Trip Cancellation Package policies purchased before April 13th will cover all of your non-refundable, pre-paid travel expenses. A typical Package Policy includes coverage for pre-departure trip cancellation, post-departure trip interruption, travel delay, baggage, medical, and emergency evacuation.
Also of interest for those stranded away from home is the travel delay component of the policy. Travel delay coverage can provide from $150 to $250 a day up to $1,500 maximum (varies by company and plan) to cover accommodation and meal charges that you may incur while stuck in limbo.
Clearly, this is my simplistic synopsis of travel insurance benefits for this specific event. To hear from the real experts, I encourage you to call our team of licensed Customer Care representatives at 1-800-487-4722. They’re standing by to assist you and answer all of your questions.
