After speaking with Nancie, I quit shopping and moved forward with the purchase. As a result of our conversation, I am now able to relax during the vacation knowing that any unforeseen emergency will be taken care of—and isn't that what a vacation is all about?! Thanks for the assistance, please take a minute to recognize Nancie for her outstanding customer service.

Be Prepared for Summer Travel

InsureMyTrip recently ran a blog contest, in which employees were encouraged to submit posts for the blog in two categories.  The following post was the winner in the “Travel Insurance and Travel News” category.  Congratulations, Becky!

The start of the summer means the start of many people’s vacations.  While traveling is exciting and definitely something to look forward to, it can also be stressful.  Flying can be a hassle, and with the recent Spirit Airlines and British Airways strikes, you become painfully aware that there are so many things that can go wrong with air travel.  Travel insurance is a great tool when it comes to flying because package plans provide coverage for delayed or canceled flights.  These plans also protect you in the event that your baggage is lost or delayed.  And if your trip is interrupted due to a covered reason, there is coverage for that too.

If you have saved and planned for your trip for some time, chances are good you are going to go on the trip.  but if something happens that you didn’t expect, like someone in your family becomes ill or passes away, trip cancellation coverage will allow you to recoup your prepaid non-refundable trip costs.  Also, in this time of economic uncertainty, some plans will allow you to cancel your trip if you suddenly lose your job.

Hopefully you never have to worry about using trip cancellation or travel delay coverage, and once you get to your destination you have coverage for a host of other scenarios.  Even if you are not traveling to an area of the world that is known to have issues with terrorism, or civil unrest, it’s still nice to know you have trip cancellation and interruption coverage in the event of terrorism in your itinerary city.  Can you imagine turning on the news the day before your trip and seeing that there was an incident in the city you were about to visit?  With travel insurance you could cancel your trip and use the money you got back to plan another.

Lastly, not everyone realizes that if you are traveling outside the country this summer, you most likely will not have any medical coverage under your health insurance.  That’s why it’s a great idea to make sure you have a travel insurance policy with medical coverage in case you become ill or injured while you are traveling.  Package policies also include coverage for emergency medical evacuation, so if you become so ill that you need to be transported home, you’d be covered.

Summer travel is a lot of fun, but to make sure you can only focus on the fun and not on the worries, consider investing in a travel insurance plan.  If you need help picking the best one for you, give us a call at 800-487-4722.  Have a great summer!
