You may have heard that the TSA has issued a new set of regulations for airlines and passengers, which went into effect on November 1, 2010.  While most of the news coverage about the switch has been focused on what will be happening from now on as you navigate the process of booking your flight and being cleared through security, we’ve noticed that the TSA itself is recommending that passengers who already have flights booked for departure dates after 11/1 take some action to be sure they’re cleared under the new Secure Flight guidelines. If you’re reading this, I suspect you, like most of us, have been keeping up with the news surrounding this weekend’s State Department Travel Alert.  For those who haven’t yet heard, here’s a quick recap, from the government’s travel security website:

“The State Department alerts U.S. citizens to the potential for terrorist attacks in Europe.  Current information suggests that al-Qa’ida and affiliated organizations continue to plan terrorist attacks.  European governments have taken action to guard against a terrorist attack and some have spoken publicly about the heightened threat conditions.” (more…)

The start of the summer means the start of many people’s vacations.  While traveling is exciting and definitely something to look forward to, it can also be stressful.  Flying can be a hassle, and with the recent Spirit Airlines and British Airways strikes, you become painfully aware that there are so many things that can go wrong with air travel.  Travel insurance is a great tool when it comes to flying because package plans provide coverage for delayed or canceled flights.  These plans also protect you in the event that your baggage is lost or delayed.  And if your trip is interrupted due to a covered reason, there is coverage for that too. Terrorist activity and travel insurance

An article posted on the BBC site today is titled “Travel chaos after Majorca bomb”.  As a result of a terrorist car bombing on the Spanish island of Majorca, airports and ports have been closed.   People who are on the island cannot get off, and anyone with plans to fly in now must make alternate arrangements.  Situations like this highlight one of the many reasons why travel insurance is so beneficial.  Nearly all package and travel medical plans on our site offer some protection for terrorism.  What does this mean for you exactly?
