I did not have to rely on my plan, but it was a close call when my husband became temporarily unable to walk (but resolved prior to the trip). A story from our local newspaper reported that a travel insurer denied a claim because the insured did not buy coverage for the entire amount expended on his trip. This raises an issue, because there is pressure to buy the insurance within a certain time period after making the first payment for the trip. At that point, not all the expenses are known. I estimated our total trip cost for the purpose of buying insurance, but this might not have been sufficient had we needed to make a claim. We did not know the total amount until close to the time of the trip, as we visited a number of places over a month, and were still making hotel reservations just prior to departure. It's an issue I will clarify before I purchase another policy.

For $130 it provided reassurance should any of our plans have had to be cancelled/altered....and thankfully that was never the case. I can't see why anyone wouldn't insure their trip; especially w/all the up front money due on a cruise and the excursions they book!
