My trip to India was delayed by 5 days due to hurricane Sandy on the east coast. Airports were closed 3 days. I also had a power outage for 3 days with no computer or phone.
I contacted CSA to alert them that my trip was going to start 5 days later and asked for coverage to continue for the additional 5 days. They would not automatically extend my coverage but told me to file a claim and they would review it and proceed from there. When I left on my trip I did not know if I had the extended coverage.

The end result was they would insure me for the additional days for an additional cost. I found this out after being on my trip for a week. They wanted me to call them collect and give payment over the phone. I chose not to do this and fortunately I had no problems during any part of the trip.

I did not like the way they handled this. Since my original return was delayed by inclement weather and the flight had to be rescheduled due to airport closures, I don't understand why it was not covered by the policy. In their policy on page 9, item #3 and 4
state that I am covered for this very thing. CSA stated that I did not notify them until the day after my trip started. That was because I had a power outage too and was unable to. I also don't see where it states this in the contract.

Anyway, the end result is that I would not use CSA again, nor would I recommend them to my friends.

Very comforting to know I had a comprehensive plan for traveling to India. Fortunately, I didn't have to make a claim, but I know the service is wonderful from past claim experience.

I almost had to use the plan, as I got very sick, but did not. My main complaint, though, is that it is rather expensive, as they ALL are. Would love to know how much of the premiums are paid out in claims.

Ease of sign-up and information available on line was very good. Since I did not need to file a claim, I cannot comment on how good the follow-up would have been.

I didn't have the need to use the plan's benefits which is a good thing on my part. The plan seemed adequate, but I would like to have included trip cancellation protection since trips are booked far ahead and illness, injuries, family problems, etc. could cause trip cancellation.

My 20 year old son was going to travel in Asia for six months, so we decided to buy a medical/evacuation policy just in case. At one point in his trip he became ill and spent three days in a hospital in Vietnam (FV Hospital--great care). Luckily, he got better, so no one needed to fly out to see him, and he did not need to be evacuated. The bill was about $1,800, which he paid in full with a credit card. We then submitted to bill to our regular health insurance company (the travel plan is secondary), which nicely paid all but $369. IMG them processed the rest of the claim, and paid it, less the $250 deductible. In the end, they paid $119, which is what the policy called for. We were just lucky that our health insurer covered this as well. The claims process was not the fastest (about 6 weeks), but is was accurate, and it was fair. They were very easy to work with, and provided everything they needed to.
