I bought it because my mother-in-law, who lives with us, caught pneumonia on top of her CPOD. This happens occasionally because of the lung condition. We found out after our purchase of the insurance, this would not be covered because of the pre-existing condition clause. This clause appears later in the contract and should be moved to the section on trip cancellation to make it more understandable.

I was hospitalized overnight in an indigenous town in Guatemala due to dehydration and rapid altitude change. Allianz was wonderful in covering all costs associated with my illness in a helpful and timely manner. I was completely satisfied with how this insurance claim was handled.

We purchased this plan to provide coverage for a 2 week trip to Italy. The coverage that was most important to us was the medical coverage and emergency evacuation coverage. While we are in good health, being in our 60s made this feel like important coverage. Our trip was fabulous and we had no need to file a claim but the piece of mind was worth the money spent on the plan!
