We call insuremytrip before leaving on our trip to see if our cell phones were covered. The insuremytrip person was very helpful (went through our policy) and also suggested we also call AmEx Gold plan. We called AmEx Gold plan rep. The rep had no idea about our coverage. He even suggested checking the internet for cell phone insurance. Glad we did not have any claim.

It felt good to have insurance in case I needed it, and glad I didn't. However, it felt like a lot of money for this. Wish there were a partial refund for those who do not need to use the policy. I might take a risk next time and not get insurance.

Luckily, we did not have to utilize our insurance plan, however the peace of mind the plan provides is certainly worth the cost. As to tips, do not wear expensive jewelry when traveling, especially in locations such as Naples. A friendly guide warned my wife that her rings were "too big" and she turned them inward in locations such as train stations, etc. My wife also carried a travel pouch that had a wire through the strap to prevent "cut and runs" and wore the pouch strap across her chest to prevent it being pulled off. Also, when traveling to Europe, take a few hundred in Euro's with you. we planned on using the ATM's during our trip, which worked great except at the airport in Rome. We tried several machines and wound up at the currency exchange to get cab fare. Italy is a fantastic destination. No hassles, great people, and breathtaking art and architecture!

Fortunately we did not have to make a claim. My wife was having severe intestinal pain and for a while we thought she could not make the trip. After many tests we decided she could postpone the procedure till after our return. Knowing we had insurance provided peace of mind.
