I'm grateful that I did not have to use the coverage, so I cannot comment on whether the company was good or not. (Which might be one of the more important considerations). I always choose carefully to ensure the plan will adequately cover things that are most important to me. This plan had it all and gave me peace of mind.

We boarded our flight in Chicago. The pilot made an announcement that upon landing in Chicago a bird flew into the engine. They needed to get a special ladder truck to inspect the engine for damage; and if there was, our flight would have to be canceled for safety sake. As we sat for about 2 hours on the ground, I thought what would we do if our flight was canceled? How does this trip insurance come into effect? This was a perfect time to check it out. I first called the Customer Service number, but there was a wait time before an agent could handle my call. I decided this was probably not the correct department to call in this situation so I hung up and called Claims. The man was very informative and knowledgeable. I was impressed even though my call was a what-if call. We had a few days before our cruise would leave so we might be inconvenienced, but not miss the most important part of our trip. There was no engine damage done, they restarted boarding, and we took off. As a special note, upon landing at LaGuardia in NYC an announcement was made to please allow passengers in the back of the plane to deplane first as they had to make a cruise. As these passengers were slowly making their way past us, we struck up a conversation. It was about 2:20 p.m., and they had to get their luggage and then travel to I think, Bayonne, NJ to board their ship scheduled to leave at 4:00 p.m. Even if we landed at our proper time of 1:20 p.m., they weren't going to make it. I don't know who booked their flight, but in today's low inventory/delayed flights world, you should arrive for a cruise at least 1 day before. I'll bet they didn't have insurance either.

You should allow me as a repeat customer to set up a profile on your site so I can more easily identify the plan (or plans) I have used in the past. This would avoid the need to start every trip from scratch.

Global Alert! Preferred plan is a good value but the coverage is secondary to any other policies you may have. For trip cancellation or interruption it is fine but the claim process I went through last year when I did have a claim was excessive. They even required a copy of my credit card statement as proof that I had purchased the policy even when I had gone through InsureMyTrip to purchase it! Medical coverage for the USA and Canada would have easily been covered by my own medical insurance policy as primary but not in other countries. Therefore, I would recommend purchasing a primary travel insurance policy to cover even clinic or outpatient visits in Europe, Africa, Asia or the like. Most foreign clinics and hospitals will require payment in cash for services so at least a quick cash advance should be provided in a travel insurance policy. Will not likely use Global Alert! Preferred again due to the limitation in primary coverage for foreign travel.
