I know the advice is to not purchase insurance, but past experience with a 7-year-old who contracted pneumonia at Walt Disney World (canceling a Disney cruise) and elderly parents (one with Alzheimers), the peace of mind was worth 10x the cost! Watching kids get sick on the plane, damaged luggage, running to make connections at foreign airports--I knew if the worst happened, my family would find help a phone call away.

I liked having the opportunity to insure my trip with cancel for any reason insurance, along with CDW in case of issues with my rental car. This combination is not easy to find, and its availability is one of the reasons I am happy with the product. It was a little pricey but worth the peace of mind. I knew if there was any trouble at all, there was a number I could call for 24/7 assistance, in addition to having my AAA international roadside assistance and bank account international assistance numbers ready. I have had trouble with lost baggage and flight delays due to weather before, and have had to file travel insurance claims, so insurance coverage for expensive travel arrangements is essential in my view.

    Lost items would have to be claimed through the airline first before the secondary baggage coverage would come into play.
