We were unsure whether we could make a trip- so we purchased the plan to have an option to "cancel for any reason". In the end, we used this option. The whole process worked very smoothly. We contacted the insurance and initiated the claim over the phone. The rep was extremely polite and helpful. After we submitted all the required paperwork, we got the check after about 2 weeks . I would definitely recommend this insurance.

A major shortcoming in this policy is that the premium is non-refundable if the related cruise / travel plans are cancelled prior to the penalty period. That is, if coverage is purchased for a trip 270 days in the future and the trip is cancelled 180 days in the future with no penalty cost, the insurance should be refundable, less a small service charge, because the insurer has not provided any coverage during a risk period, that is there has been no exposure to loss.
