Global Travel Shield Classic
My review is not based on the actual coverage since I never actually filed a claim; however, I was disappointed with the entire process of calling and speaking to a claims representative. Our luggage was lost on an inter-island flight from Oahu to Kauai. Within a short time, we learned it was recovered and would be sent on the next available flight and would reach us several hours later. I had read the policy beforehand but didn't remember if it provided reimbursement of purchased items immediately or if our policy required us to wait six hours. I called American Express and the claims people to inquire. I was placed on "HOLD" for a solid 30 minutes before speaking to someone. This person had no immediate knowledge of the guidelines for my policy; in fact, she read the actual wording of the policy aloud to me while on the phone as she attempted to make a decision for me. Her initial assessment was that I was covered for reimbursement. I persisted in questioning this as I had remembered something about "six hours." She placed me on "HOLD" for a time and upon returning to the phone, she agreed that we were NOT covered. Had we hung up after her initial advice, I would have made purchases for which I would not have been reimbursed. American Express should ensure their claims personnel know everything about their policies and be able to dispense accurate advice. Fortunately, our bags were delivered within six hours and our plans for the day were only temporarily interrupted by the inconvenience. However, I was disappointed with the claims process of American Express Global Travel Shield and will choose another company next time.
