Allianz Global Assistance
To be honest, the reason I buy travel insurance is to make sure I can get home if I am injured or incapacitated overseas. Most stateside insurance policies will cover the cost of medical care overseas (on a reimbursement basis), but not getting us back home.
However, this time my only problem was travel delay (which in the summer is not necessarily unusual when you live in Florida). I was due to take a cruise out of London. I had arranged to fly into London and paid for the transfer from the airport to the ship. Unfortunately, the weather never let me get out of Orlando on the scheduled day. I was rerouted to the first port of call city, but there I had to arrange my own transportation to the ship. The policy contained a per diem limit. The only thing I would change about the plan was the per diem travel delay limits. It did not include breaking out the cost of transferring from airport to ship or the additional cost of making that transfer at an alternate destination.
Allianz Global Assistance handled the claim promptly and in accordance with the terms of the policy. They also provided a complete explanation for the amount of the settlement. Travel insurance is a good investment and I would happily go with Allianz again.
