HCC Medical Insurance Services Atlas International
I purchased insurance from HCC Medical Insurance Services several times in the past. This was the first time I filed a claim. I contacted the company right after I had an incident which resulted in a short hospital visit. The representative of the insurance company told me I should fill out the claim documentation and send it in the mail. I sent the expense report from the hospital, together with the form to the claims department address. After waiting for a while, I checked with a representative of the company over "live chat" if everything was okay and he told me he couldn't give me any information since the case was under review.

I had to exchange a few emails and contact customer service a few times to get some information on the claim status, but in the end I received the check via mail. You need to have patience, but all of the medical expenses were paid.

We had no claims on our trip to Morocco, but were pleased that InsureMyTrip sent us a reminder a few days before we left, suggesting that we print our confirmation and take the information with us in case we needed to file a claim while traveling. When we couldn't find the original confirmation, they quickly emailed us another copy, and we did take it with us. This company impressed us by not just trying to sell insurance, but actually looking out for the policyholders.

Filed a claim for a 6 day luggage delay.
It took me 5 phone calls and 3 emails to the claims administrator before they agreed to pay the cost of claim submitted.

We choose this plan because it covered catastrophic loss, medical repatriation, and excellent medical coverage when traveling in a foreign country. This plan offered more than just insurance for travel and baggage delays. We are pleased with the coverage and will use this plan again.

Travel Guard Basic
My mother was in hospice, and this is the only insurance company that claimed it would cover prepaid travel expenses if I had to cancel the trip. Since I did not have to file a claim, I do not know if in reality prepaid items would have been covered. Sometimes the fine print is misleading.

I had to return from a trip to Morocco because illness prevented me from keeping up with the group. I received $500 for trip interruption but nothing for my airfares home because I was able to fly commercially. This plan would have only covered a true medical evacuation - so it only covers the most dire of medical situations. I wish I had talked with an agent in detail before I bought the plan so I had completely understood. I am about $400 ahead in what I spent on the insurance but of course lost the price of the trip and the travel home was very, very expensive. I am much wiser now.

So glad I had trip insurance! I had to cancel my trip 30 days before leaving for medical reasons. Travel Guard paid the claim in less than 30 days of my sending the claim forms in to them.
