I thought the American Express Global Travel Shield Deluxe plan was a good and reasonable plan. It had better coverage than the plan my travel company offered. Thankfully, I did not have to use the insurance but I was happy to know it was there if I needed it.

My wife and I both got travelers diarrhea in Peru and missed 2 days of a 14 day trip. In the past, travel insurance has covered trip interruption, but not this time. In fact nothing was covered by this trip insurance. I will tell everyone who will listen concerning our experience.

This is a travel medical policy the trip interruption (see below) is only for certain covered reasons.
Trip Interruption - Coverage is provided if an Insured is unable to continue his/her trip due to; a) death, occurring prior to the Insured's return to his/her Home Country, of an Insured Person's Immediate Family Member; b) serious damage to the Insured Person's principal residence from fire, flood or similar natural disaster (tornado, earthquake, hurricane, etc.). The Company will reimburse the Insured Person for the cost of travel, less the value of applied credit from an unused return travel ticket to return to their Home Country. This benefit is limited to the cost of a one-way economy airfare or ground transportation and is subject to a maximum of $5,000 per policy period.Aug 21,2012

Fortunately I did not have to file a claim, but I felt confident that if I did, I'd have no problem, based on the reputation American Express has, as well as the positive reviews I read before I purchased my policy. Having CSA travel protection gave me peace of mind. I'm thankful I didn't need it but happy I had it. As I go through my bucket list of adventures there have been times I have said to myself, "could this be dangerous?" or "should I really eat that?" You just never know! Having travel protection is a big part of feeling safe where ever I go.
