Glad I didn't need to use the insurance but for such a long trip, on my own, it was comforting to know that if anything had happened I'd be covered.

Arch RoamRight Essential
On the 1st day of our arrival in UK, my NorthFace jacket was lost/stolen while on platform of London subway. When I returned home, I filed a claim with RoamRight for the replacement cost of the jacket (less than $100). I received 1 email saying the claim was filed and requesting proof of trip itinerary, which I furnished immediately. The claims department has been unresponsive since that. After making about a 6 or 7 phone calls, I was told my claims representative no longer worked for RoamRight. I was provided the first name of the claims representative who was now assigned to my claim. I requested to have my call directed to the new claims representative or their voicemail, but was told they cannot receive incoming calls (??). I asked that the claims representative call me, and was promised on 3 separate occasions she would call me. I never received a single call ! A week later, I received an email asking me to provide proof that I filed a report of my loss with my tour company, hotel or police. There was no tour company, and the hotel was not involved. Anyone who even looked at my claim submission would realize that. I again contacted RoamRight and asked to speak to my assigned claims representative or their voicemail once again. I was again told that was not possible. I asked the person taking the calls if the policy had specific language requiring a police report in order to pay claims. Of course, I got not answer or explanation.

I have made over a dozen phone calls to claims department, have been lied to 3 times by being promised a return call from my claims representative and just generally ignored. To date (after 2 1/2 months), I have received 2 emails only. It seems the policy of RoamRight is too ignore claims until the policy holders just wear out and give up.

I would not recommend anyone purchase a RoamRight policy.

I have purchased other policies here at insuremytrip.com and had to make a sizable medical treatment claim on one policy. Working with the claims department on that loss (not a RoamRight policy) was straightforward, honest and fairly quick. The experience with RoamRight has been dishonest, evasive, and consisted of misleading communications.

You don’t want to have to use travel insurance - - but if you do need it, you are happy to have it. Over the years I have insured a dozen or so trips and only one claim - I am happy with all results and will insure the next trip - my rule of thumb is if I have $5,000 of cost that is fixed and not refundable - I insure.

Travelex Travel Select
Overall, I'm pleased with this Cancel for Any Reason policy. I canceled the trip when I didn't receive my passport in time, per the policy instructions.

However, in order to get the claim closed and paid I had to make several phone calls to Travelex. I uploaded the claims form and receipts as required. I didn't hear anything for two weeks, so I called and was told they only had the airline receipts and for me to please send them the claims form. She said someone would be in touch to confirm its receipt.

I wondered why no one had called to tell me there was a problem. I uploaded the claims form a second time and another two weeks went by without anyone contacting me.

I called again to ask about payment status. I spoke with an agent who said the airline ticket receipt didn't include cancellation terms or the form of payment. I told her it did indeed include those things. She reviewed the receipt I'd sent and confirmed it contained the necessary information. She said she didn't know why the adjuster hadn't closed out the claim or why no one had been in touch. She also said they had received my claims form the first time it was sent and she didn't know why I was asked to send it a second time. About a week later I received payment in the amount I'd expected.

This was more hassle than it should have been. It seems the adjuster didn't review the submitted documents closely, which resulted in payment being made by 4-5 weeks, and that the initial agent I spoke with didn't review the file close enough before telling me to submit the claim form again. The TravelEx team needs to be more diligent.

Nationwide Mutual Insurance Essential
Trip cancellation, interruption and delay are very specific per each policy. Be sure to read the fine print as to when they take in effect so as not to be disappointed later when a claim is not paid. Sadly, Nationwide would not cover our trip delay expenses because the delay was not 6 hours or more.

    Travelers will find that every Comprehensive plan makes basic trip cancellation coverage available that will extend coverage for the cancellation of a trip for specific unforeseen, covered reasons. Commonly, travel insurance plans, such as the Nationwide Essential plan, will cover reasons such as:

    The unexpected death, illness, or injury of you and/or a traveling companion that deems you unfit to travel, by order of a licensed physician;
    The hospitalization or death of a non-traveling family member;
    Weather or common carrier related issues that causes your common carrier to cease operations for 24 hours;
    Unforeseen natural disasters at home or the destination; and
    A legal obligation, such as being called for jury duty or to appear as a witness in court. However, we recommend that you review the covered reasons in your certificate since they do vary from plan to plan.

    Travel Delay under the Nationwide Essential plan does reimburse the traveler for your incurred expenses but only after a six hour delay for a
    Hazard which means:
    "a) Any delay of a Common Carrier (including Inclement Weather).
    b) Any delay by a traffic accident en route to a departure, in which You or a Traveling Companion is not directly involved.
    c) Any delay due to lost or stolen passports, travel documents or money, quarantine, hijacking, unannounced Strike,
    natural disaster, civil commotion or riot.
    d) A closed roadway causing cessation of travel to the destination of the Covered Trip (substantiated by the department of transportation, state police, etc.)"

    InsureMyTrip encourages all customers to the certificate which is attached to each quote prior to purchasing.
