Allianz Global Assistance Basic
The airline lost our luggage and I was without anything of mine for ten days in Switzerland. Of course I had to make some purchases while there. Naturally there was some necessary paperwork, but the Allianz Global Assistance sent me a reimbursement check very promptly.

My backpack and briefcase were stolen. I had to file a claim and was pleased with the results. I confidently recommend this plan.

Travel Guard Gold
I chose Travel Guard because, unlike most other competing policies on this site, Travel Guard does not require that the insurance company arrange emergency evacuation. In the event Travel Guard could not be contacted to arrange for emergency Transportation, benefits are limited to the amount the Insurer would have paid had the Insurer or their authorized representative been contacted. Competing policies apparently will pay nothing if a companion, tour leader, bystander or first responder calls for, say, helicopter evacuation without first calling an insurance company in America to do the arranging. I'd suspect the majority of real emergencies would likely fall in this category.

I did not have occasion to make a claim to Travel Guard for this 2014 Nepal trip, but I did make a claim with them when I was forced to cancel a Nepal trek last year due to a sudden hip joint deterioration. While I had to submit voluminous documentation of my claim, their requests were reasonable in my opinion and I got a check within approximately 10 days of their receipt of my completed claim. Thus the reason they were again my choice for this year's successful trek.

Travel Insured Worldwide Trip Protector Lite
I knew travel insurance was mandatory for a cruise to Antarctica, so I reviewed policies offering the same basic features. This policy was more affordable than others, and the company got good reviews. Glad I did not have to actually use any of the benefits purchased.

The trip included a
Allianz Global Assistance Basic
Going to South East Asia with a group tour, and then splitting off to do some personal touring in a country like Burma, that is new to the tourist industry since recent changes in the military government, we felt it was essential to take travel insurance. This, because no telling how many of the laid plans could fall down the line with one extreme delay in plane, train, lodging, or other plans purchased. It helped us to relax and enjoy our trip, knowing there was this back-up in place if things went awry.

Our travel was delayed 30 hours by a pilots strike. Consequently we missed an entire day of a prepaid guided tour. Very thorough record keeping meant that we were able to recoup most of our expenses during the delay and receive reimbursement for the portion of the tour that was missed. Once all of our documentation was submitted CSA was prompt and fair in the handling of our claim. I would buy insurance from them again.
