We were in Greece during the civil unrest. Our flight the next morning was cancelled from Mykonos to Athens due to an aircraft controller strike. We got back to Athens by ferry that evening, and made our flight back to the USA the following day, but we incurred an extra nights lodging in Athens and did not enjoy the night we had paid for in Mykonos. CSA refunded the extra expense for a night in Athens, and 3 months later, after getting the info they needed from the travel agent, refunded the lost night in Mykonos. I am very pleased with the handling of our claim. Although it took 3 months to resolve the entire claim, I do not blame CSA. Our travel agent was slow in giving them the cost per night in Mykonos.

Since I have never filed a claim, I really don't know the answer to these questions. I buy this type of insurance because the ONE time in ten times we've traveled to Europe, and we did NOT have insurance, I ended up in the hospital in Italy!

Trip insurance is one of those things you don't really think about until something goes really wrong. Fortunately, that didn't happen to us on this trip, but the peace of mind was worth the cost.
