The plan we purchased was exactly what we needed. Unfortunately, we had to cancel and reschedule. The plan paid the exact amount we documented with no issues. It took a little longer than expected (about three months) but it was an easy process.

I guess the old saying still holds true, namely that you get what you pay for. This policy appeared to be a good value, but the coverage was less than expected. Specifically, I lost a day of touring because of a traveling companion's medical problems and expected a reimbursement for that day's loss. Instead, I was informed that no benefits would be paid. The plan apparently says that for an all-inclusive tour like we were on, pro-rata benefits are payable only if an, "entire day, including the overnight accommodations, must be missed." Although we spent our touring time in the local hospital's Emergency Room, that is not sufficient. Some of that is my fault for not reading ALL the FINE print, but what is NOT my fault is that it took 6 months for them to reject the claim. This is, therefore, not a company I would be quick to ever use again.

    We do want you and your fellow customers to be aware that InsureMyTrip offers a Customer Advocate Program. Customer Advocates are representatives assigned to assist customers who experience issues after filing a claim. Requesting a Customer Advocate is as simple as calling 800-487-4722 or emailing [email protected], explaining the events which resulted in a claim, and the challenges you are facing.

Global Alert is administered by Trip Mate, Inc. which is underwritten by American Modern Home Insurance Company.
We had to cancel our trip due to an injury. Fortunately, we had purchased trip cancelation insurance and had all the medical documentation required to file a claim. However, dealing with Trip Mate was a very frustrating experience. It was hard to contact them, and the claim forms - only available on line- were confusing and could not be completed on line.
We submitted all required paper work by mail, which Trip Mate received on February 9, 2017. After numerous phone calls, being put on hold for almost 20 minutes on several occasions only to be told to leave a call back number (which was not always returned), and two letters, we finally got a check on April 14, 2017. Yes, in the end, Trip Mate/ American Modern Home Insurance Company did cover the expenses incurred when we had to cancel our trip ,which we appreciated. However, it is doubtful that we would have ever purchased this insurance from Insure My Trip if we knew that we would not be dealing directly with an insurance company-Global Alert!- but instead an on-line company like Trip Mate, Inc.

We did not need to file a claim. While the policy is quite expensive, the main reason to buy it was for our peace of mind.

The claim procedure was ridiculous. The forms asked for silly things such as show proof of payment for the insurance policy itself and show proof of payment for the cost of the cruise I went on. This was a MEDICAL claim for services while on a cruise ship.

The time to process the claim was so frustrating. They received the completed information from me on Jan. 23, 2017. I received my payment on March 4. It took them 5 days just to make a file and then more time to submit it to "claims dept."
All my forms were complete and they did not need to contact me for more info. So, why so long? Just frustrating. The end result of my claim was fair and accurate.

We filed a claim when my husband took ill while we were on vacation in South Africa. TripMate, the insurance company behind Global Alert, took a very long time to process our claim after we returned home and filed the claim. Additionally, TripMate told us the medical coverage was secondary to our health insurance when that was not the case; TripMate should have paid the hospital directly, which they did not, so we had to pay out of pocket and then recover the hospital and medical expenses. We have finally received full payment for the claim but that happened only after the folks at InsureMyTrip got involved. The Customer Care department of InsureMyTrip is wonderful and they contacted TripMate on our behalf until the claim was finally paid. If you have a problem with any policy sold by InsureMyTrip, they will stand behind it! To summarize - I do not recommend TripMate or Global Alert insurance based on our experience but I definitely do recommend InsureMyTrip.

    We are pleased to learn that your claim has been paid. Thank you for allowing InsureMyTrip to advocate on your behalf and assist you in getting your claim resolved. We apologize on behalf of the claims administrator for the lengthy claims process and confusion over whether the medical coverage is primary or secondary. In general, the medical expense benefit provided on comprehensive travel insurance plans is in excess of your primary health insurance.

    "If at the time of the occurrence of any Loss there is other valid and collectible insurance or indemnity in place, We shall be liable only for the excess of the amount of Loss, over the amount of such other insurance or indemnity, and applicable deductible."
