There are multiple medical limits to select from, ranging from $10,000 to $500,000. Toward the end of my trip I became pretty sick. We were in a far flung place, so I asked the tour guide to call his company and tell them I wanted to return home. (They had my insurance information.) I was told that I could sign off the tour and I'd then be on my own. I was way too ill to handle anything myself, and there was no phone access.
So all I could do was stay in bed alone for the rest of the trip.
My question is this: if one is really ill, as i was, then just how is one meant to contact the insurance company and arrange to be helped?

I had the good fortune not to test my coverage as the trip was accident and illness free. But, I felt secure going to Japan. I also appreciated that I could download the policy onto my iPhone for easy access.

In all honesty, we did not file a claim so we are not aware of actual performance. However, it provided required medical evacuation coverage for our voyage so we were very happy with the coverage and very reasonable plan cost.

We had a momentary scare and thought we might need to have our son seen by a doctor in Amsterdam. I called in and received excellent support identifying a couple of nearby hospitals/clinics that we could take him to if necessary. The gentlemen that helped me was fantastic and answered all of our questions. It was so reassuring, thank you.

The best way to obtain assistance from the insurance provider is to contact the 24/7 Emergency Assistance company by calling the toll-free or collect-call telephone numbers printed on your ID card or emailing [email protected]. "Upon your request, MEDEX will provide referrals to pre-approved physicians, hospitals, dentists, and dental clinics in the area you are traveling in order to assist you in locating appropriate treatment and quality care."
If the condition is an emergency, please call the local 911 to be taken to the nearest physician or hospital, and then contact the 24/7 Emergency Assistance company as soon as reasonably possible.
