I didn't file a claim, so I don't know how their customer service performs. But I found the plan very expensive. Four our trip to Africa, I got a policy that covers preexisting conditions, so I needed to insure every penny. When I realized the exchange rate made our costs just inch over the amount I insured for, I was honest and called MH Ross to increase the total. Those few extra dollars cost me an extra $150 to insure! I was pretty incensed, but paid it anyway, as I didn't want to take a risk they wouldn't cover us if something happened. But that is just ridiculous. They could have made an allowance for exchange rate changes.

I had an accident and incurred some emergency medical costs. It took a while, and Insuremytrip.com followed up on my behalf, but I eventually got reimbursed.

Due to relocating with work, we needed to file a claim with MH Ross. The process to open the claim was painless, and I submitted the requested documents to claim $400 total for rebooking fees for the airline tickets. Although I submitted the documents to prove the airline tickets were apart of the trip, MH Ross requested them a second time, delaying the payout of the claim.

Once they had the documents a second time they paid out quickly. As far as an insurance company goes, they did alright. Since I know how their process works and that they will actually pay out, I will continue to buy future policies from them.

Although I didn't have to use the plan or file any claims, having the comprehensive coverage gave me the peace of mind for a worry-free trip.

I didn't need to use the insurance so I can't say anything other than the price was lower than comparable policies I researched.

This was our second time to purchase this plan. We did not file a claim on this trip but we did on a previous trip two months prior when my husband had an ER visit in Mexico. While we did have to show an amazing amount of proof and receipts for that visit we were reimbursed for the full amount of the ER visit in about 2 months. I would recommend this company and encourage you to save all receipts including credit card statements to prove you actually purchased insurance through M.H. Ross.

I have an MBA and a lot of contract law experience. I can only speak to one area of the policies major flaw. Coverage for baggage loss or theft internationally. The policy requires a "written report" of the loss of your baggage. Sounds easy? It isn't, especially, when A) you do not have a clear definition of what the report needs to contain and B) they expect it to almost come to you as if you were in America. Imagine being in ANY foreign country, China, Iran, Jamaica, South America and your items are stolen. You need a police report. Can you file it while your there? Was there a riot? trouble? When you get home can you figure out how to file the report? Including the language barriers, time differences, the international calls and the insane amount of time you spend doing this. Foreign Countries aren't jumping up and down to spend money to help you get a report for an insurance company. At no time have I received a definition of what a "written report" exactly is and that is applicable fairly and equally across all foreign destinations. So buyer beware. If you've been denied, seek counsel.

Thank you for your feedback on the policy. Your review is very informative, and we hope fellow customers will consider the information in their search for travel insurance.

To have a payable Baggage and Personal Effects claim on a Comprehensive travel insurance policy, the insured person must notify, the police, hotel, Common Carrier or bailee who has custody of your property at the time of loss, and obtain a copy of the reported loss from the company. The wording of this requirement will vary slightly from policy certificate to policy certificate, but the basic premise is the same, the insured person bares the burden of providing the proof of loss in order to receive reimbursement for their loss. Notifying the appropriate authority and obtaining a written report for Baggage and Personal Effects claims is travel insurance industry standard for Comprehensive travel insurance policies.

Please call us at 800-487-4722 if you have any questions about this requirement, or want details on the additional requirements for Baggage and Personal Effects coverage.

Germany doesn't provide written reports within 48 hours, they provide them after the investigation is over. So the insurance plans ask for what is not reasonable or obtainable. You cannot know the laws of each foreign country you are visiting before you travel.

Interesting how most of the reviews (95%) are just reflections of how easy it was to buy this plan or any plan actually - USELESS. I do appreciate that Deirdre review or was it an opinion? gives some food for thought.

    Thanks!

While it is true that a high number of reviews are not based on a filed claim, we do provide a filter option at the top of the review page to only show reviews based on a filed claim.

Thank you for your feedback on the policy. We are sorry to learn of your injury.

You are correct in stating that the M.H. Ross Advantage Asset plan covers Medical Expenses incurred during your trip, but not expenses incurred after returning home. The exact verbiage can be found in the Summary of Plan Benefits.

We advise our customers to call the insurance provider immediately after suffering an illness or injury so that a medical referral can be provided, or an evacuation can be coordinated by the assistance company.

For medical expenses incurred within the United States, an individual should use their primary health insurance.

Please call us at 800-487-4722 if you have any questions or concerns.
