I did not need to use the plan but was glad to have it. My main concern was getting back home if I was injured or otherwise delayed while away, and I thought TravelSafe had the best plan of the ones that I looked at. Unfortunately TravelSafe will only evacuate you if the hospital at your travel destination cannot care for your needs - so I had to sign up for an additional plan that would evacuate me even if the local hospital was able to care for me. It would be nice if TravelSafe would add that evacuation option.

    Thank you for your review. You bring up a great point about emergency medical evacuation coverage. Typically, when medically necessary, most insurance providers will take you to the closest hospital that can treat you and then to a hospital in your home city. Customer Service is available 7 days a week at 1-800-487-4722 to assist you with questions and to help you find a plan that best meets your needs.

I wouldn't feel comfortable taking a cruise without medical protection and trip cancellation coverage. I was happy I didn't need to use the benefit, but it made me rest easy.

I purchased this plan because an InsureMyTrip customer service representative recommended it for my particular trip. The plans offers hospital of choice in the event of an evacuation, rather than going to the closest facility in the Caribbean; very important to me.

It took over 16 weeks, over 120 pages faxed (some of it multiple times) and far too many telephone calls to resolve my claim. And, yes, I submitted all they asked for on the forms they requested including proof of insurance payment in a timely fashion. I even provided a spreadsheet because our situation was slightly more complicated. Claims are processed through a third party administrator and you are never able to speak to the claims examiner. Updates consist of a generic postcard or a generic entry on their website. It added so much stress to an already difficult situation. Yes, we got most of our money refunded but the process is designed to wear you out so you give up. Even when we got the checks the summary of payment was almost impossible to decipher. It was only because of my determination and insistence that our claim was resolved to my satisfaction.
