DevOps System Administrator

Position Summary

As part of our expanding DevOps Team, the DevOps Systems Administrator will have a critical role in ensuring 24×7 up-time of our networks, corporate servers, and e-commerce business while streamlining the processes and tools used to build and deploy great software. To be successful you will have strong experience in Linux systems administration with familiarity or experience working in a complex DevOps/IT infrastructure that involves various staging environments with software deployment automation. You will manage networks, storage arrays, and physical and virtual servers. Database administration and disaster recovery skills are essential. You should be interested in new technologies and be able to develop and deploy innovative solutions to help IT operations. Major Responsibilities:

Monitor, secure, and maintain our network infrastructure, including interfacing with ISPs

Perform regular systems maintenance (backups, upgrades, security audits and patches, firmware and operating system updates, and KVM host maintenance)

Support edge services including Firewalls, VPNs, network zones, and network equipment

Provide support for server applications and tools used to monitor and manage systems and services

Perform system build, administration, and improvement activities within physical and virtual Linux environments including server hardening and penetration testing

Participate in disaster recovery/business continuity execution

Follow industry best practices regarding security and infrastructure

Participate in hardware and systems design processes, developing specifications and implementing innovative solutions

Enable good technical decisions by understanding the purpose of the system, customer interactions, system goals, and providing key data points to stakeholders

Assist with inventory and asset management in data centers

Continuously improve documentation related to hardware, software, systems, procedures, users, security, backup, and replication

Stay current with emerging technologies and trends with respect to DevOps and the Cloud and apply those new techniques and tools to improve our systems

Requirements:

5+ years of experience with Linux System Administration

3+ years of experience supporting enterprise software deployment in a DevOps role

In-depth knowledge of networking and Internet technologies

Strong knowledge of database administration (MariaDB or MySQL w/ Replication, Mongo, Redis)

Proficient with task automation (Bash, Python, PHP, etc.)

Experience with deployment automation tools (Chef, Puppet, Ansible, Terraform, etc.)

Self-learner with strong written and verbal communication skills

Team member designing and implementing solutions in support of development and operations

Embrace our existing architecture while thinking forward with new ideas and technologies

Able to participate in scheduled, after-hours and on-call maintenance

Meet deadlines or correct course at first sign of blockers

Excel in a fast paced, customer facing, 24x7 production environment

CMS (Processwire, Wordpress)

Understanding of GDPR, PCI-DSS and/or working with sensitive data

Experience working within an agile framework (Kanban, SCRUM)

Experience building and supporting systems in the public cloud (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure)
