Cruise Fever! Our 2018 Survey Encourages Cruisers to Share Their Experiences

Every year InsureMyTrip reaches out to its customers, asking to learn more about a very popular form of travel: cruising!

This year, nearly 3000 people responded to the annual survey and shared some very insightful information with us, and we can’t wait to share it with you!

Turns out, getting sick tops the list of travel woes. Cruisers are most concerned (52%) about an illness or injury affecting a trip.  Twenty-nine percent worry more about bad weather derailing travel plans.


Cruising is a blast, but sometimes things don’t go as planned.
Twenty-four percent polled had filed a travel insurance claim for a cruise-related issue.

The most common reasons for filing a claim:

  • Medical care required during a cruise
  • Medical issue forced a trip cancellation
  • Bad weather forced a delay or cancellation of cruise
  • Missed flight led to a delay or cancellation of cruise
  • Items were stolen or lost during a trip

The survey also found that cruisers are used to changes in travel plans due to weather and other factors. In fact, 38 percent experienced an unexpected itinerary change. Despite the disruption, most cruisers remained pleased with their overall experience. None the less, itinerary (60%) and cruise line reputation (17%) are deciding factors when choosing a cruise.

The big question still remains —  will my health insurance cover me on a cruise vacation? Twenty-seven percent are not sure if their current health plan would offer protection during a vacation.

How can cruisers get the most out of their travel insurance plan? It starts with calculating cruise costs correctly and quoting comprehensive travel insurance plans.

Travelers voluntarily participated in this survey and had all researched or purchased travel insurance within the past 24 months.
