Covering trips up to 31 days in length, the American Express Classic plan offers basic comprehensive trip protection before and during your travels. With both Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption coverage, your investment is protected if you have to cancel or interrupt your trip for a covered reason such as an unexpected sickness or injury of a family member or a traveling companion. If you are concerned about a pre-existing condition (anything that has happened 60 days prior to the policy effective date), the pre-existing conditions exclusion will be waived if the plan is purchased within 14 days of the initial trip deposit, and all pre-paid non-refundable trip costs are insured. If you are not paying for the entire trip at once and will be making payments in stages, or if you plan to add an additional cost after purchase of the policy, you have to add those trip costs to the plan within 14 days of making them to keep the waiver valid.

Fortunately, we did not need to file a claim with American Express for this trip. However, the plan documents were clear, the price was competitive, and the coverage was comprehensive. I would rate the overall experience as positive.Linda B.
Upon arrival in Nicaragua, I contacted a severe upper respiratory virus. Not knowing if it was a 'flu', an MD evaluated me. I got a thorough exam along with prescriptions. American Express Classic was prompt in the reimbursement! I always ensure that I have trip cancellation/interruption insurance, but what I didn't for see was the need for trip delay coverage. I didn't have it and it cost me an additional $300.00 for a Miami airport hotel due to the closed airports during the January storm. If I travel again from the NE during the winter months, I will check policies to ensure that option would be available.Jean Marie D.
