I have often purchased travel insurance for the peace of mind it brings. The last time, I did have to file a medical claim. I got sick while on a cruise and needed treatment that totaled about $1,000. When I got home, I filed a claim with all the proper documentation and the claim was handled promptly. Couldn't be happier. Just purchased the same plan for an upcoming trip and will purchase another for our trip next spring.

Lucky for me I really didn't need to use the insurance; was stranded in the Atlanta airport due to bad weather; called the 800 number and was connected to a voice message telling me to call back between 8 AM and 10 PM, it was 11PM at the time; not very helpful; good thing it wasn't a "real" emergency.

Global Underwriters Diplomat International
My wife and I were delayed by a day at airport due to a weather delay which this plan does not include under trip interruption. Extra cost to us was about $150 for hotel and food, in addition to the loss of a full day of vacation.
It would have been nice to have option in plan to include this under trip interruption.

Fortunately we experienced no travel problems so are unable to comment on the claim process. We did find the overall purchase experience painless and would use Travelex in the future if we find ourselves in need of travel insurance.

Checks and EOB did not arrive promply. Checks were not received 28 days after claim submission, Travel Team was notified and they traced the checks/EOB immediately and Checks/EOB were reissued and sent to claimant. Claim submitted 1/26/16 and Checks/EOB received by claimant 3/7/16.

Here is the thing. Without having a claim, there is no way to know how good or bad this, or any other, policy is. This one was about half the cost of others and AXA is a reputable company. The only negative was that the medical evacuation coverage was $250,000 vs $500,000 on others. This may not seem like much of an issue, but when my mom needed a 10 minute medical helicopter transfer, the bill was $30,000, so you can imagine what a medical plane from South America would be. I bought this policy and enrolled in a service called MedJet Assist. The cost of both was still $1500 less than the alternative.
