Never filed a claim. Considered plan adequate for meeting goals as a comprehensive plan, with desired emphasis on medical insurance. Cost compared favorably to several similar type plans.

On Call International Single Trip
Fortunately, we did not have to use On Call International's coverage, but we did try to contact them while in Ecuador. For some reason, we had trouble calling collect to On Call, but after we brought this to their attention by email, they were more than happy to call us at our hotel telephone. Overall, we were glad for the piece of mind that this policy/membership gave us while we were abroad.

CSA Travel Protection Custom
I was not able to receive a Visa for Brazil in time for my cruise. Therefore, I had to fly to Buenos Aires which caused me to miss several days on the cruise. I had to pay for a new airfare and pay $744.00 for an air cancellation fee. (**first flight) After calling about my trip insurance coverage none of it was covered. Wow, very disappointing!

    Thank you for your comments. As you discovered, there is no coverage for Trip Cancellation, Trip Interruption or Travel Delay if you do not receive your Visa in time for your trip which is why there was no reimbursement for your increased costs. In the future, you can read through the covered reasons to cancel or interrupt your trip in any plan on our website by first comparing your quotes then clicking on the dollar amount of Trip Cancellation coverage. You with then receive a pop-up window with a list of all the covered reasons. Please note that these are not the same in all plans so you may wish to call us at 800-487-4722 for assistance.

It would be of value to have information regarding the handling of claims. This policy is excess over other health coverages and I am curious about actual claim experience and procedures that are followed. I am a former casualty claim manager and also have work experience with group medical claims.

    Hello and thank you for your questions. Below is the information found at the end of the Description of Coverage that you received as part of your policy. Also, the claim form requires the information highlighted below. Global Underwriters Claims Department adjudicates anywhere between 1,500 and 3,000 claims per month.

    "HOW TO FILE A CLAIM
    Please follow these instructions:
    • Complete front of claim form, in full;
    • Sign Medical Authorization and Authorization to Pay Benefits on front of claim form;
    • Mail to Administrator with itemized bills, showing diagnosis, and Explanation of Benefits from your primary insurance carrier for each bill (if applicable)

    All itemized bills must include:
    1. Patient’s Name;
    2. Patient’s Address;
    3. Diagnosis;
    4. Date of Service;
    5. Description of Service (CPT Coding);
    6. Medical Provider’s Name, Address, Telephone Number, and Federal Tax ID Number

    • A completed claim form must be submitted for each injury or sickness a student sustains.

    Keep copies of all claims forms, bills, and correspondence for your own records.
    In order for benefits to be paid, claim forms must be filed within 90 days from the date of injury or sickness."
