AIG Travel Basic
Had an unscheduled cheek biopsy several weeks before trip then dermatologist wanted a chemical/laser face treatment done 8 days before travel. I was told the peel would be mild & take no more than 5 days. The following day thought might be a smart idea to insure my trip in case there were any complications. The facial skin did not follow the normal experience expected. After several days I had a more extreme reaction. There was to be no follow up till post trip but needed to make an appointment & was told to delay trip so cancelled flights. When calling to ask for info to have reimbursement, as a retired nurse I realized it was futile effort to try. I DID have a reference from nurse practitioner stating I should avoid plane travel till full healing. The amount of paperwork plus requesting medical records from over 6 months past from dr office made me understand AIG is in business to make profit first @ make claims lengthy & difficult. I have had trip insurance before, never used it. I will look at other options to insure my trip if I decide to insure again.

    Thank you for your feedback on the policy. AIG Travel Guard has issued the following response:

    "Thank you for sharing your concern. It looks like treatment for claimed incident occurred prior to policy purchase, which is why, according to the description of coverage, we are unable to extend benefits to you as the policy purchased does not cover for medical conditions that received treatment within the 180 day period prior to the effective date of the policy. As with all of our claims, we welcome any new information that may have also been a factor in the reason for cancellation. You are welcome to call our Claims Department for further discussion/assistance at 1-800-826-1300."

TravelSafe Classic-Plus
Unfortunately had to cancel our pricey trip to Deer Valley ski resort in Utah due to my wife's slipped disk in her neck requiring surgery. Our booking was paid in full with a 45 day cancellation requirement or lose entire cost. The TravelSafe policy reimbursed us 100% after submitting a reasonable amount of paperwork, and we received the checks in a few weeks time. I haven't always purchased insurance for every trip, but I will now.

    Your last trip, which experienced the claim, was insured through a different provider that was also available with InsureMyTrip. However, you would have been as happy with the service and care provided by Global Alert should you have experienced another claim.

I have yet to need to file a claim so I don't know how well the companies that have been suggested will actually come through if I have to cancel a tour or travel plan.

The process of buying the plan is straightforward and easy, primarily because of the helpfulness and professionalism of the people working online and on telephone support.

I love being able to have a good, comprehensive plan for our trip insurance and love using Insure my Trip. I felt the price was a little high, this time, for a short, inexpensive 3-4 day trip, this included a short Bahama cruise, which was why it was more, I was told. We have about the paid the same amount for more expensive trips to Europe for 6 weeks or so, but from a different insurer that Insure my Trip used. All in all we had a great time at our family reunion and felt secure while we were on our trip!

    As you indicated, your policy premium has increased since your trip to Europe in 2013. However, your premium increase is directly to related to your ages. Policy premium is based on age of traveler, cost of trip and the length of trip. Since each company sets rates according to an age range, your premiums have increased as you moved into the higher age range. For example, you may qualify for one rate between the ages of 51 to 60, but upon reaching age 61, your premium would increase. Age ranges do vary among companies so it would be best for you to call us for competitive quotes prior to purchase.

    Thank you for your 4+ Star Review for the TravelSafe plan. However, you did mention that it would have allowed you to cancel "for whatever reason you couldn't go." Actually Trip Cancellation would have allowed you to cancel your trip prior to your departure but only for a "covered reason". The number one covered reason in all plans is the unexpected sickness, injury or death of you, a traveling companion or a family member, but there are other covered reasons to cancel that may vary between plans. You can review the list of covered reasons by clicking on the dollar amount of Trip Cancellation coverage when comparing your quotes.
