Our trip to Belize was delayed a day due to mechanical difficulties with the airlines. We were only reimbursed $100 per person for the part of the trip that was nonrefundable. (Our hotel and food expenses were paid for by the airlines for our delay in Atlanta.) I didn't understand that if you are delayed a day or more, the max this plan would pay is $100. (We lost an entire day at an all-inclusive resort and was much more than $100.)
However, the insurance company processed our paperwork quickly and I received a check within 2 weeks of submitting the claim. I called them the insurance company as soon as I realized we were being delayed and they emailed me a checklist as to what documents i would need to submit for the claim.
As with any insurance, it is good to really understand what you are paying for. I will be a little more educated the next time I purchase insurance so I know what is covered and what isn't.
