Allianz Global Assistance Classic
Without having had an actual claim, I can't really rate how good or bad the policy/Allianz is. It was certainly easy to purchase, and it gave me some peace of mind, but I have no idea how well it actually works, or whether Allianz stands behind the policy, whether they provide good customer service, whether there are gaps in coverage that weren't obvious to me, etc etc. I would probably buy it again for an expensive trip, just as a safeguard.

AXA Assistance USA Silver
We had to change some parts of our reservation and there was no way to contact the AXA customer service to alert them. If we had had a problem while on the trip perhaps you wouldn't have covered us since there was a change. You should make it easier to contact someone in the event of changes or questions.

In most cases, a policy can be amended if InsureMyTrip or the insurance provider is notified before the scheduled departure date. InsureMyTrip is open and available by telephone and email Monday- Friday 7am - Midnight EST and Weekends from 9am - 9pm EST. Our phone number is 800-487-4722 and our email address is customercare@insuremytrip.com. AXA Assistance USA is open and available Monday-Friday from 8am - 7pm EST. Their phone number is 888-647-4295 and email address is ustravel@axa-assistance.us. If possible, it is best to call InsureMyTrip so that we can quote the requested changes and advise if there is an increase in premium. In the instance in which neither InsureMyTrip nor AXA Assistance USA is open, please send an email requesting the specific changes you would like to make. The time stamp of the email will be honored. Please note, policies cannot be amended after the trip departure.

I had to appeal three times before $40 of my $120 claim for expenses incurred as a result of baggage delay was allowed. They didn't think the cost of transportation to get to a store to purchase needed clothing was reimbursable. People I spoke to on the phone had no authority to deal with the claim. The documents sent to me referred to me as "the patient" on what was obviously a medical insurance form. I think the claim was finally allowed only because I was stubborn and persistent.

We were unable to take our trip because of an unplanned surgery. We were contacted by the claims department representative in a very timely manner. The claims representative provided their business email and phone information, but never responded to any of my email or phone messages related to completing the claim form and accompanying paperwork. Although that was frustrating, I must have responded satisfactorily to the claims form questions because we received a check for the full amount of our claim in 6 weeks. By the way, I submitted all the claims paperwork as email attachments rather than faxing or mailing between 20 and 30 documents!
