I withheld comment pending news about a couple of excursions that went badly. Today I discovered that they had been completely reimbursed. So I had/have no need to ask for assistance from Insuremytrip with regard to this past trip. However, as we age we remain increasingly convinced that we need reliable insurance to cover whatever emergencies that might arise.

C&F Travel Insured International Worldwide Trip Protector
I realized why it is rated so high. If you read the reviews, most of the people did not have to use the coverage. I would not recommend this insurance and will not ever use it again. Please look elsewhere and save yourself time and stress. I researched and choose this company because it is rated high (by those who don't file a claim). If you look at those who do file a claim, it is not rated well at all. My camera damage situation did not fit into the boxes they wanted it to so the forms and processes did not work with my situation. Because I did not report the damage to my camera to anyone (since it wasn't the airline, hotel or trip operator's fault) they will not pay my claim or honor the insurance I purchased even though my camera is no longer usable and it occurred during my "covered" trip. I filled out all the paperwork, provided pictures and offered additional information but now they have gone silent. I returned from my trip in early November, it is now January. I am going in another direction to get my camera taken care of. The customer service, if you can call it that, is hard to access and lots of time waiting on the phone. I have other companies that I have used in the past that I will go back to. I do not recommend this insurance coverage.

The good news is we did not experience any problems at all on our trip last month to South America so no need to file a claim - Thank You! This said my only contact with IMG was an e-mail of which I printed off a cover page. Call me old school but I would think for a $1000+ we could have at least received a insurance card by mail if nothing to save our printer ink to put in our wallet such as you get from most other insurance companies i.e. State Farm or even Medicare - KH

    Thank you for your review. However, Tokio Marine HCC does offer a refund if you wish to cancel your policy prior to departure:
    "CANCELLATION --
    We hope you are happy with the cover this policy provides. However, if after reading it, this insurance does not meet with your requirements, please notify us of your wish to cancel and we will refund your premium.
    Premiums will be refunded in full if a cancellation request is received prior to the certificate effective date.
    Premiums may be refunded after the certificate effective date subject to the following provisions:
    a. A $25 cancellation fee will apply for administrative costs incurred by us; and
    b. Only the unused portion of the plan cost will be refunded; and
    c. You cannot have filed any claims to be eligible for a premium refund."

    If you have any questions, Customer Care is available to assist you by phone at 800-487-4722 Monday - Friday, 7am-12am EST and Saturday - Sunday, 9am-9pm EST.

I presumed incorrectly that a state of emergency and a curfew would be cause for a covered trip cancellation. Apparently this is not considered terrorism.

    We appreciate your feedback. Although we understand your disappointment, an incident is only defined as terrorism if it is deemed a terrorist act by the United States Government. This is true for all the plans on our website.

    Your Tokio Marine HCC policy specifically states that a "Terrorist Incident means an incident deemed a terrorist act by the United States Government that causes property damage or Loss of life".

A fellow traveler on my trip had a heart attack. He had to have immediate surgery in a foreign country. Thank God he had trip insurance. Never leave home without it.

So lots of reviews on this site are from people who have never filed a claim. In this instance I did not file a claim, but I almost had to. I had a trip planned to Chile and the week before my departure date they had rioting and civil unrest and the US State Department raised their travel advisory level to 2. Despite all these circumstances and that most people would not want to visit Chile under these conditions, most of the policies on the site do not cover "civil unrest", they cover Terrorism. I was told perhaps if the US travel advisory level got to "3" i should file a claim and see what the claims department would say. I was advised I should have bought a "cancel for any reason" policy. So that's something for people to consider as they travel outside of USA and Europe. Fortunately we were able to seek refunds from the hotel and airlines given the circumstances. But this has enlightened me as to what these policies do not cover.

Our bag was stolen from a bus in Chile so we had to make our first ever travel insurance claim. I was dreading it, having heard horror stories about delayed or refused claims. We put together a detailed claim with a police report, a full analysis of what was in the bag (from toothpaste to hiking boots!) and as many receipts as we could drag together and it was approved within 3 weeks and the check was in our hands a few days later. We were relieved and impressed. Although the coverage limit was less than our claim that was fine - we had chosen a plan that gave us adequate coverage and it came through. Our experience was excellent and I will plan on buying this policy again for future travels. Thank you.
