The best plan is one you don’t use which was the case. I had to use one in the past due to my mother going into the hospital. The fact that I had the insurance provided a great savings. I require international health insurance as I am on Medicare. I will continue to purchase policies that cover health and inadvertent cancellation coverage because of what happened in the past.

An important part of the insurance for me is evacuation fron the point of incident. This is not readily apparent in any of your policy descriptions. I suggest that you add this to your policy descriptions.

C&F Travel Insured International Worldwide Trip Protector
Made a claim for incurred extra travel expense (upgraded air fare when previously class was sold out when we had to re-book a connecting flight due to mechanical problems) and less than 36 hours later, I had a decision and an electronic reimbursement payment via Chase Bank ready to be processed. Now that's customer service!

Because of the 18 month extended wait between booking our trip and leaving for it, we had to buy "cancel for any reason" insurance which is very expensive and does not provide 100% return of money.

Generali Global Assistance Standard
We were in Zimbabwe when the coup occurred November 15, 2017. When we learned of it and heard that US citizens should stay indoors, we decided along with our guide to leave Zim until we knew what was happening. We had paid for three nights stay in Hwange National Park and had one night there. We headed to Botswana and spent the next two days there until we felt that it was safe to travel back to Zim and on to Zambia to pick up our trip.

We lost two nights lodging in Zim and also the park fees. We had to pay for another visa back in to Zim so the costs were not insignificant. After returning home I downloaded the form for trip interruption added ALL of the paperwork and sent it off.

For the next four weeks we heard nothing. Not an email or any acknowledgement that CSA received the package we sent. Finally I called and was told that yes, they had received it and yes, it had a tracking number but the person handling the case was on vacation. Finally this week we received an email stating that they would reimburse us a partial amt of what we had claimed. It was not the most pleasant experience and I do not know if I would ever use this insurance company again. We travel a great deal and like to know that if something goes wrong that the insurance company has our backs. The policy was over $800.

However, you replied with a very nice email stating that you believed that there was little we could do on your behalf, so we have published your review as originally submitted.

I think the price was a bit high, considering the likelihood of a claim (lack of likelihood, that is). However, this particular trip was so expensive that having some protection from serious issues was necessary. While I have never filed a claim, I have needed to use the Global Assist plan once when our reservations for a flight home were cancelled and we were stuck overnight in Mexico without a peso in our pockets.

Of course we are grateful that we did not need to use the insurance, but we travelled with the knowledge that all reasonable risks were covered just in case and at a fair cost. Our company kept in contact with emails summarizing our coverage right before the trip and providing quick links to important phone numbers for the plan just in case. Very professional.

Our trip insurance was complicated, involving a change of date, and insuring the tour component and then adding the airfare component. All my requests were handled courteously and efficiently by knowledgable agents. There was prompt follow up confirmation by email, and revised documentation.
