I have purchased travel insurance every year for the past several years. I felt the Travelex policy was too expensive for the level of coverage it provided. The only reason I think it was more costly than previous policies was because of my age, 70. While I understand the risk of health/accident issues may increase with age & therefore cost more to remedy, it seems significantly more costly than is necessary. Not every 70 year old is a big risk.

    The cost for Travel Select plan is based on 3 factors; age, the insured trip cost, and optional upgrades, if purchased. For example, two people of the same age, but different insured trip cost amounts, would have a different plan cost.

C&F Travel Insured International Worldwide Trip Protector
We filed two separate claims arising out of the same trip and were very pleased with the response from Travel Insured. 

First, a few days before our trip, one of the airlines in our itinerary rescheduled our connecting flight to depart several hours later, which would have caused us to lose half a day of our trip.  We re-booked the connecting flight onto an earlier flight on another airline, but had to pay more than $500 extra due to differences in fares.  We submitted a claim for reimbursement of the fare differential.  I am a lawyer and saw that the policy contained some exclusionary language that Travel Insured could have tried to use to deny our claim, so I did not hold out much hope that the company would pay the claim.  To my surprise and to Travel Insured's credit, it was not a stickler about the policy language and just paid the claim.

Second, the day we left for our trip, a flight made an emergency landing at the airport out of which we were flying.  The airport shut down for several hours, which resulted in cascading delays throughout the rest of the day.  Our flight was delayed by more than six hours, we missed our connecting flight, and we ended up arriving for our vacation a day late.  Travel Insured reimbursed us for a non-refundable hotel night that we missed at our destination, as well as for the hotel and meal expenses we incurred in the connecting city in which we were stranded overnight by the flight delay.   

I most certainly would use Travel Insured again.

Amazing trip and experience. Very well planned and organized, thank you for every bit of hard work and efforts in bringing this event together. So happy to be included and able to participate. The one bit of feedback would have helped me pack differently is knowing we can leave behind clothing that may be useful for the community. I had a few things to leave behind but could have delivered more if that's something the villages need. Much gratitude to everyone involved!!

Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection ExactCare
I use Insure My Trip for all of my foreign travel, NOT for trip cancellation but rather for those features that might help if an accident or illness occurred while outside of the US (medical, medical evacuation, airline ticket rescheduling penalties for changing your return to US flight, etc.)

Fortunately I have never had to file a claim so I cannot comment on that process. NOTE: Each time the actual insurer, and therefore claims agency, is different because the IMT sales agent is looking for the best value for the country and coverage that I need based on what their vendors are offering at the time. So, I am reviewing only the Berkshire Hathaway offer I paid for, and my IMT sales agent, not the claims process.

I am not sure what incentives are driving the IMT sales agents but they always give the impression of offering me the most affordable plan from what they tell me is a solid provider. So this review is more for that process and that my particular sale agent liked BH for the price & coverage limitations that I gave her.

Travelex Travel Basic
The insuremytrip website was very useful in finding the best plan to suit my needs. I selected the benefits that were important to me to filter the available plans and then picked the one with the lowest price that had decent reviews. We had to cancel our trip due to my wife's illness. The claims process was clear and straight-forward. The Confirmation of Coverage included a link to file a claim. I filled out the web page, which generated an email to me with the claims form attached, as well as clear instructions and a 6-item checklist of items they needed. I had the choice of emailing the documents, uploading them, or mailing them. I chose email. When I emailed the final document on the list (which needed to filled out and signed by a doctor, so it took a week or so), I asked them to keep me apprised of the status of my claim. I didn't hear anything other than an automated response saying they had received my email, so after 5 days I called. It didn't take too long to get through to a live person. They told me it can take up to 15 days to process the claim. Three days later (8 days after I emailed the last document), I received an email saying the claim was approved and payment would be by EFT to my bank. Within a few days, I received notice from my bank that the deposit had been made. I'm quite happy with the whole experience.
