Comprehensive plans offer the most benefits, including Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption. These plans provide the best protection for the investment you have made in your trip.
I purchased travel protection for our trip to an all inclusive resort in Mexico. The day after arrival I began to develop symptoms of conjunctivitis. Thinking it was my allergies kicking up, I waited a day to see if my allergy medicine would help. It didn’t. The resort had a medical clinic so I made an appointment and saw a very nice doctor who diagnosed me with conjunctivitis and gave me the required eye drops. Symptoms gone 2 days later. The bill was $291.00. The doctor was very familiar with what paperwork I would need to submit my claim so I left the clinic with paperwork in hand.
Upon return home, I called Nationwide and initiated my claim. I needed to gather a little more paperwork for them like the receipt for my trip showing the total cost of the trip, and a photocopy of my passport showing the stamp for entering Mexico. All paperwork submitted 3 days after returning home.
A few days later I received an email from Nationwide stating that they had received my paperwork and were reviewing it.
2 weeks later I was notified that my claim was approved and they were mailing a check.
1 week after that I received a check for the full amount. Yay!
Overall I was very satisfied.
I was also very grateful for the on site medical clinic and the astute doctor who was very well versed in not only dealing with sick tourists, but with insurance paperwork as well!

We did not file a claim on this policy, so have no idea how well or poorly the company might have followed through. We were glad to have it in place while we were traveling though.

We did not have to use the coverage, we were lucky all went good with our trip; however, it was a good feeling knowing I had coverage if something did go bad.

While I did not have to make a claim, I know someone on my cruise that had a medical issue and ended up with a medical issue that cost several thousand dollars aboard the ship. They did not have insurance.

Initially it looked like a great plan, but when I ended up needing it, my unique situation was not covered under the requirements. My teen son and I planned a cruise and flight to meet it. He’s been overseas with me and has been on a cruise a couple years ago, but he has a very complex type of autism and mental health issues, and the days right before the trip, he had extreme panic attacks and an exacerbation of anxiety to the point of agoraphobia and could not go at the last minute. I read the policy again and I’d said for mental health reasons he had to have been hospitalized, and even for general medical, his doctor would have to say he could not go….but in his state he could not and did not meet these requirements. It was triggering more anxiety to think of leaving the house that week, and I told him his mental health was more important than all the money I was losing (which I’m paying off still). I’m going to have to think differently next time I get insurance.
