Comprehensive plans offer the most benefits, including Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption. These plans provide the best protection for the investment you have made in your trip.
Buyer beware of the waiting period for this travel insurance. We purchased this policy on a Sunday for a trip starting in 6 days on the upcoming Saturday. We found out on Monday morning that a family member passed away on Sunday night so we proceeded to cancel our plan tickets, tours, etc to mourn, spend time with our family, and prepare for the funeral. I filed a claim for reimbursement of non-refundable fees like our plane ticket, museum tickets, etc. We just found out that our claim was denied since the policy did not start until 12:01 AM the next day. Our family member passed away at 11:58 PM on Sunday (3 minutes before the policy was in effect on Monday). Be aware that you will not be covered until the waiting period is over, even when faced with a tragic circumstance like the passing of a family member.

We're sorry to hear about the circumstances surrounding your claim and apologize for not meeting your expectations, Edward. We take customer service and the claims review process very seriously. We want our customers to understand the coverage details of our plans and cannot stress enough that it is important to review these details via the Plan Document that’s provided at the time of purchase, and contact us at (800) 348-9505 or via email at [email protected] with any additional questions. We have dedicated customer service representatives who can clarify the plan terms and conditions and guide you towards the best coverages. To further ensure customer satisfaction, we also offer a free look back period with all of our plans to allow customers to cancel their policies within a designated period as long as they haven't already left on their trip or filed a claim. While the Trip Cancellation coverage included in the plan you purchased can typically provide coverage if you are forced to cancel your trip due to the unforeseen sickness or injury of yourself, a traveling companion or family member, your coverage must be in place before the sickness first commences or takes an unforeseen worsening in order for the plan to provide coverage. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please reach out to us at the number or email provided above.
After spending a lot of money for this insurance coverage, when we cancelled our trip due to the terrorist act and then war in Israel, our claim was completely denied as war is not a covered reason.

I paid extra $1,300 for my flight from London to Manila with Air China because my original flight with Shenzhen Airlines ($999) was postponed for the next day. It was a Sunday, their office was closed, have tried calling them, I even went to the airport but Shenzhen Air didn't have any representative there. I wanted to explain to them that I won't make it to my connecting flight in Bao'an China if I take their postponed flight.
Nationwide paid only $600 for the new flight that I paid after Shenzhen messed up everything for mine and my husband's flight.

We're very happy with using Insure My Trip to get good trip coverage and overall we were happy with the IMG policy. However, we were disappointed that they did not cover anything of our claim for Israel which this trip to Africa replaced due to the war.

I needed to make a change in the dates of coverage, as we left a day earlier than originally planned. I submitted the change form about a week before my departure. I received a phone call several days later, which I was unavailable to answer at the time. I called the person back at the number she provided and left numerous messages for her to get back to me, which she never did. Finally in desperation, I called the number for claims because we were leaving the next day and reached someone who was able to make the change and process the additional payment required. This is the first company that charged me extra for an additional day, and their communication was very poor when I needed to reach them. I don’t plan to use this company again.

The tragic events of October 7, 2023 and ongoing conflict contributed to the decision by my travel operator to cancel the trip to Israel. Nationwide said that because the tour operator didn’t cancel within the first 30 days of the “terrorist event” that no coverage existed. No tour operator has given tours in Israel since October 7 so that was just a way for Nationwide to avoid any liability. Later when I appealed, they shifted to saying it was a declared “war” despite the fact that Gaza isn’t a “country”. I've used Nationwide over 10 years and only had one other claim and that took months to settle. Buyer beware when traveling to any part of the world that has ongoing civil or military events. Most trip insurance will either not cover the “terrorist” or “war” claim or find a way not to pay the claim using word salad or creative interpretations to avoid payment. Fortunately after all of this, the tour operator refunded our trip deposit and British Airways provided a reasonable time frame to use the value of the air tickets to take another trip.

While I did not have to make a claim, I know someone on my cruise that had a medical issue and ended up with a medical issue that cost several thousand dollars aboard the ship. They did not have insurance.

Trip was canceled 5 days prior to departure due to insured becoming ill with Covid-19. Claim was filed 1/23/24 and is still in review as of today (3/19/24). Additional (duplicate) medical information had to be provided 3 weeks ago. It appears that claims for multiple insurance companies have to be processed by one clearing company and this seems to slow down the slow down settlement time. Plan was not reviewed due to this delay.
