The process to submit a claim is entirely by mail (I imagine it's designed to make you not want to file). I had a claimable event happen on this trip, but my loss was only $75 and I am in the process of moving, so doing a claim by mail wasn't worth the hassle in the end.

My husband was having some health issues before the trip and I tried to contact them to get information several times and could not get hold of them by phone or by email to get answers to my questions. This experience makes me wonder what sort of help I would have gotten from them in another country. To me, customer service in an emergency is the most important thing an insurer can provide.

We are in our mid-70s and we know that the odds that one of us might need medical attention while overseas are increasing. So, we need to have good insurance when we travel. Two of my children are actuaries, and we know that real insurance with a good track record will not be cheap; in fact, cheap insurance is probably worse than no insurance. We had to cancel our trip because our daughter developed a serious illness. The claims process was a nightmare from filing to payment- four months later. It was as if this company has a list of "tricks" that it utilizes to put roadblocks in front of anyone who files a claim. Dropped service rep calls, inconsistent claims information by different reps, claims applications that were "too large" to email, a document uploading software that repeatedly failed. The company required reams of medical and payment documentation and then claimed that the the document file I submitted was "too large for their system. I could go on but I'm sure you get the picture. IMG 's business model is to repeatedly frustrate claimants until many of them give up. I might have too if I hadn't contacted Insure My Trip's customer advocate team. Matthew contacted IMG on my behalf and helped me eventually receive payment. I was one of the lucky ones. Spare yourself hours of misery and do not buy a policy from this company.

No hassle insurance plan for travelling to destinations where insurance is required. It covers more than any other plan, it is easy to get and gives you peace of mind when in another country. Mine covered Covid 19 hospitalization as well as plane schedule changes among many other perks. Very satisfied.
