Travelex Travel Basic
Usually I buy from a different insurance company & thought this one would be good for close to home travel. I asked questions of the Insure my Trip rep, who was very nice, but I either asked wrong questions or got incorrect answers. For example I had to travel thru San Juan & asked if earthquake interfered with my travel & I couldn't leave or get to my other island would I be covered & Travelex rep said NO only for a natural disaster happening at my home area & also wouldn't cover trip interruption either. There were more negative answers re coverage making this a worthless purchase for me. Luckily I didn't have to use it even though tense moments due to rain & wind whether I could leave SJO to get to my final destination.

Upon receiving your review, we shared your comments with Travelex. Here is their reply:

Thank you for taking the time to voice your concerns on InsureMyTrip.

The Travel Basic plan that you purchased is a Named Peril Policy, which means that the policy lists all reasons for coverage, and if the reason is not listed, then coverage does not apply.

While Natural Disasters at your destination are not covered under Trip Cancellation or Trip Interuption, you would be eligible for the Trip Delay benefit if a Natural Disaster causes a delay in your trip. The Trip Delay benefit would help reimburse for reasonable expenses; such as hotels, food, or transportation while you are delayed.

We do offer two different plans which have different levels of benefit amounts and reasons to cancel or interrupt a trip. For example, our Travel Select plan offers coverage for Trip Cancellation or Interuption if your destination is made uninhabitable by a natural disaster.

It is important to read the policy details that are sent with every quote and after the purchase of the plan to understand the policy benefits. We hope that this helps to clarify the benefits and differences between the two travel insurance plans that we offer.

    Kind Regards,
    Amber

I did not have to file a claim but appreciated the peace of mind brought by having the insurance - it was for our son, who was traveling in the Dominical Republic with friends, and it was just reassuring to have the insurance.

Not having filed a claim, my experience with this coverage is insufficient to prove a rating as to ease of claim processing or honoring of this policy. Rated neutrally due to no claim experience.

TravelSafe Classic
I purchased TravelSafe Classic plan for my trip to Dominica. Since Dominica Island was severely hit by hurricane Maria I had to cancel my trip and file the claim with TravelSafe Insurance. They were great! Their instructions were clear and easy to follow; the customer crevice was very helpful. It took 2 months for them to send me the check but I was reimbursed the claimed amount with no issues. I am very satisfied with TravelSave Classic plan and would highly recommend this insurance to everyone.

BE WARNED! This company does not follow through to do their part. I missed a flight in February due to snow and sleet and traffic that backed up due to that. Roam Right did not pay my claim after losing a full day of my vacation because it doesn't meet the standard of a "Hazard." Well, what is an appropriate hazard. This was exactly the reason I got insurance. So beware this is not an ethical company.

Thank you for this review but your fellow travelers should be aware that RoamRight is an ethical company, but it does bring up a very important point on coverage. Travel insurance plans are "named peril" policies which means that the reason for your Travel Delay claim must be due to a "hazard" listed in the policy. Your RoamRight Preferred plan states that “Hazard means: a) Any delay of a Common Carrier (including Inclement Weather); b) Any delay by a traffic accident en route to a departure, in which You or Your Traveling Companion is directly or not directly involved; c) Any delay due to lost or stolen passports, travel documents or money, quarantine, hijacking, unannounced Strike, Natural Disaster."

In the future, we encourage you to call InsureMyTrip prior to purchasing a policy to review your coverage options. You should also be aware that you may read through your certificates which are available on our website for all quotes. Keep in mind that plans may differ in coverage from plan to plan and state to state.

Thank you for taking the time to reach out to us. According to your description of coverage, traffic caused by inclement weather is not a defined hazard for trip delay coverage.

A hazard, as outlined by the description of coverage, would include a delay of a common carrier (airline, cruise line, etc.) due to inclement weather, if you are involved in a traffic accident enroute to a departure, or delays caused by lost or stolen travel documents, quarantines, hijackings, unannounced strikes, or a natural disaster.
Your claim was adjudicated pursuant to the terms of the policy and we therefore object to your mischaracterization of our company.

If you would like further clarification on our trip delay coverage and the defined hazards, please feel free to contact our claims department at [email protected] or by phone at 855-762-6252.

since we had no problems with our travel, we don't know how the coverage would have worked out. The price seemed fair compared to other companies.
