Do Not Buy this! It was a waste of my money. It should never be listed as an acceptable/authorized insurance to meet the requirements to obtain Costa Rican QR code for entry. Better go buy the “approved” policy so you don’t get the giant headache I got frantically trying to buy the right insurance at the airport!

GeoBlue Trekker Choice
Fortunately, as with so many reviewers, we did not have to file a claim on this trip. However, with other international trips coming up this year and no medical coverage abroad from our Medicare Supplemental, this seemed like a wise choice. The agent was very helpful and friendly as well.

I want to rate the plan and my satisfaction a 5, but am uncomfortable doing so without having to file a claim.I would feel better qualified to give a 5 star rating that may influence the decisions of others if I had implemented the plan as presented. I would definitely recommend not traveling without extra insurance especially if someone is traveling outside their native country. The plan I chose had everything I was looking for and I was pleased with the price. Having the extra insurance definitely gave me peace of mind while traveling.

MEDEX TravMed Choice Outbound
Toward the end of my trip I became pretty sick. We were in a far flung place, so I asked the tour guide to call his company and tell them I wanted to return home. (They had my insurance information.) I was told that I could sign off the tour and I'd then be on my own. I was way too ill to handle anything myself, and there was no phone access.
So all I could do was stay in bed alone for the rest of the trip.
My question is this: if one is really ill, as i was, then just how is one meant to contact the insurance company and arrange to be helped?

    The best way to obtain assistance from the insurance provider is to contact the 24/7 Emergency Assistance company by calling the toll-free or collect-call telephone numbers printed on your ID card or emailing [email protected]. "Upon your request, MEDEX will provide referrals to pre-approved physicians, hospitals, dentists, and dental clinics in the area you are traveling in order to assist you in locating appropriate treatment and quality care."

    If the condition is an emergency, please call the local 911 to be taken to the nearest physician or hospital, and then contact the 24/7 Emergency Assistance company as soon as reasonably possible.
