I did have to call once before my trip to inquire as to coverage in the event of an impending death in my family. The representative that I spoke with was nice but did not sound very confident in her explanation of coverage. Just something to work on.

At a younger age we didn't get the added insurance, but we do now. It's just nice to have an extra piece of mind. And the cost would be worth it if you need to use it.

I did not have to file a claim, which is the real test, but I almost missed the trip because of complications from a surgery. I have used Travel Guard before, filed claims a couple of times, and have had good experiences with the representatives.

We are sorry to hear that your family member is seriously ill. However, the AIG Travel Guard Basic Plan provides Trip Cancellation coverage for the unforeseen Sickness, Injury or death of an Insured, Family Member, Traveling Companion subject to the pre-existing conditions exclusion as defined in the policy. The exclusion does not apply to death.
