We frequently travel to Vietnam. We both are in our 70s and feel more comfortable being so far from home if we have invested in a modest travel policy. We on two occasions we have needed the benefits of a travel policy. It a modest investment in peace of mind!

Allianz Global was one of the worst companies I have ever done business with - the claim check was sent to the incorrect address twice, on two occasions they claimed they had not received documentation I had both faxed and e-mailed to them, customer service reps do not convey the correct information from the claims department, and unless you check on your claim all the time you will never know the status. Would never use again.

    Thank you very much for your review. Your Comprehensive plan premium is calculated based on the travelers' ages, the cost of your trip, and the length of the trip, so the premium will be a greater percentage of your premium.

    The best time to purchase travel insurance is right after you put money down towards your trip. Some policies include time sensitive benefits which are but not limited to pre-existing condition waiver, financial default, Cancel For Any Reason and Cancel For Work Reasons. Most plans require that you purchase a policy within 10 - 30 days of your initial trip payment, and insure all prepaid non refundable trip costs to receive these time sensitive benefits.

I had just check into our Beijing hotel room when I had to go to the ER. Exhausted after a 20 hour journey, I called the insurance co. The medical dept. helped me located an ER with English speaking staff. I was particularly nervous because I was traveling alone with my 13 yr old daughter. I was reassured that, should I need surgery, they would fly my husband over to care for our daughter. Luckily, it was not that serious. I paid for the all the testing up front, snapped a photo of the bill, and emailed it to my husband who submitted it. A check arrived shortly after I returned home. I am very satisfied with the customer service and the coverage.

The definition of trip interruption differs at Allianz than ANYBODY else- I specifically wanted to defend a prepaid hotel room against delay and interruption- when my first flight was delayed 3 hours so international connection impossible, I was rerouted 24 hours later and lost 1 night prepaid room. Every other insurance company defines this as trip interruption AND delay-but not Allianz which only covers $150/night for delay. I called at purchase, called at delay/interruption AND WAS TOLD BY AL THIS POLICY WOULD COVER MY CONCERN. It did not. Bait and switch.

    In response to your review, we have followed up with the Allianz Claims department to check on the details of your claim. According to them, the claim was finalized and paid up to the maximum limits the policy provided. Attached is a copy of the Allianz response to our request.

    You are correct when stating that Allianz usually covers the loss of the prepaid hotel expense under Trip Delay instead of Trip Interruption. In order for the prepaid hotel to be reimbursed under Trip Interruption, the common carrier would have had to cease operations for at least 24 consecutive hours but even then only for inclement weather, mechanical breakdown or strike. More and more plans in addition to Allianz, especially those in the lower premium range, are now covering the lost prepaid expense under Trip Delay. Nevertheless there are still a few plans available that would have offered broader coverage which may have reimbursed you for the hotel under Trip Interruption but only for a higher premium.

    In the future, you may wish to call us when quoting a policy to review the policy terms and conditions prior to purchase.
