The Global Alert Preferred plan offers comprehensive Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption coverage if you have to cancel or interrupt your trip due an unforeseen covered event.
I'm very thankful to have purchased the Global Alert! Preferred Plan offered by Insuremytrip.com. It was very comprehensive and covered all that we had been considering. It brought us all great peace-of-mind in case any unforeseen events occurred. We never had to file a claim, but I would go with them again, in a heartbeat!

We had to file a claim because we had to return early due to a death in the family. At first I filed the claim with TripMate, the firm that processes claims for Global Alert, and they were somewhat slow in responding to my questions and confirming receipt of my submissions. Calling them required me to wait a long time on hold.
Then I received a note in the mail that a different firm, Broadspire, would process my claim and had received materials I had submitted. The letter was signed by the person handling my claim, and included her phone and e-mail contact info. I spoke with her a few times and she was very clear about the additional information I needed to submit. Having a specific person to speak with was very reassuring, and although I had hoped the process would move a little faster, I did receive a very fair amount for my claim. I would want to use this insurance company and claims processor again if I ever have another issue.

It took 5 months for my claim to be processed. That is ridiculous! I called every 2-3 weeks and every time they would say it would be completed in another 2 weeks. Crazy!

We do want you and your fellow customers to be aware that InsureMyTrip offers a Customer Advocate Program. Customer Advocates are representatives assigned to assist customers who experience issues after filing a claim. Requesting a Customer Advocate is as simple as calling 800-487-4722 or emailing [email protected], explaining the events which resulted in a claim, and the challenges you are facing.
I had a very difficult time speaking with a person at Global Alert--I'd call and wait on hold for 12 mintues and then be routed to a message machine. I left several messages that were not. Eventually, I did make contact, and my questions were answered. Global Alert then paid only 2/3 of the expenses I submitted. I had 3 week-long tours scheduled one after the other. The trip was interrupted early on--I had to come home and missed the first two tours, but was able to rejoin the 3rd one. Global Alert paid for the return airfare and the two cancelled tours, but denied coverage for the outbound airfare to join the 3rd tour, claiming that once I returned home, my coverage ended.

Thank you very much for submitting your review. As you know, we did assign an advocate who provided assistance in the claims process. You were able receive reimbursement for most of your expenses. However, you did not receive reimbursement for expenses incurred after the you had returned home as stated in your policy:
"When Your Coverage Ends:
Coverage is effective for the stated term shown in Your Confirmation of Benefits. In addition, Your coverage will end at 11:59 P.M. local time on the date which is the earliest of the following:
(a) the Scheduled Return Date as stated on the travel tickets;
(b) the date You return to Your origination point if prior to the Scheduled Return Date;
(c) the date You leave or change Your Covered Trip (unless due to Unforeseen and unavoidable circumstances covered
by the Policy);
(d) if You extend the return date, coverage will terminate at 11:59 P.M., local time, at Your location on the Scheduled Return Date;
(e) the date You cancel Your Covered Trip."

I appreciate knowing that advance medical payments came with this plan. It's one of the most important things a person should get when traveling. I've read all the horror stories online of people who went to the hospital, only to have their passports confiscated until they could pay 10's of thousands of dollars in healthcare IN ADVANCE. Your medical insurance won't pay until AFTER you are out of the hospital, so advance payments are a MUST when it comes to travel insurance.
