The Global Alert Preferred plan offers comprehensive Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption coverage if you have to cancel or interrupt your trip due an unforeseen covered event.
Although we did not have to use the travel insurance we are still glad we were covered on our trip. It gives us peace of mind that we are protected from unforeseen events.

When booking a non-refundable 20-day trip to China through Sinorama Holidays (which included airfare, hotels, meals, tours and in-country transportation), we were urged to purchase our own travel insurance. We are in our seventies, and have traveled to places like India and Russia, but never purchased travel insurance before. We are SO GLAD we did. We purchased an all-inclusive Global Alert policy online through InsureMyTrip / TripMate. It covered us from the day we booked (in October) through the dates of the trip (late March into April). We paid only $180 each to cover the trip cost of $2499 each. The peace of mind was great in itself. But when, two days before departure, my husband developed stomach cramps and a high fever and was told to go to the emergency room, we were SO GLAD we had that insurance. Long story short, my husband was admitted, put on IV antibiotics (he had diverticulitis, something he'd never had before, with a large abscess, which if it had burst while traveling could have proved fatal). Since then he has had 18 inches of his lower intestine surgically removed. (We never saw this coming--we are physically active and walk a mile or two each day.) We were sorry to miss our China trip. Our bags were packed and were so excited to be going. But how much worse it would have been if we had lost our $5000 too! Global Alert refunded us within a month (only recommendation: better communication during claim period.) Now we have the funds to book another trip to China if and when my husband is able to travel there. THANK YOU!!

Fortunately, we didn't have to use the plan, but we had great piece of mind that we could be evacuated in a medical emergency from China. Secondary was the safety of our monetary investment in our trip. The cost was half the price quoted by our tour operator.

Thank you for your feedback on the policy. In the future, if you are unsatisfied with the claims process, please call InsureMyTrip and request a customer advocate. Our customer advocates can contact insurance companies on the customers behalf and attempt to expedite the claim.
All went well for us and we didn't have to make a claim. So, retrospectively, we could say 'what a waste of money'. But, your coverage provided peace of mind knowing that IF something did happen, your company would be ready to help. This stopped us from worrying about such issues so we could enjoy the trip.

I would have used the plan to cancel my trip, but the person I was to visit did not notify me of any problems until it was too late to cancel(less than 2 days before departure). I probably needed a plan that allowed for up to 24hr notice of cancellation, if such a plan exists
