Turns out that the extra coverage for car rental was not helpful when renting a car in Spain. The rental company offered a comprehensive coverage that was more robust at a similar cost.

Did not have a claim. Did have the need to change the dates of coverage, however. While InsureMyTrip could not make the change they put me in touch with John Hancock who did make the necessary change for us. Very Happy.

Thankfully, didn't need to file a claim. While in Nassau, Bahamas one of the women on our ship fell and broke her hip. And a friend that was with my group had a kidney stone attack and had to visit the ship's doctor for pain meds. Just shows that accidents and sickness happens more often than you would think.

Addition to previously submitted review. The day before we were scheduled to leave for Phoenix, AZ, we were notified that the unit we had rented for three weeks had been sold and we were going to be switched to a house in a different part of Phoenix. Upon arriving at the house, we discovered the one bedroom had an unacceptable sofa bed. The owners agreed to bring another mattress and we decided to try staying there since the rest of the house was nice. The second mattress helped but still was not up to par. Then the water pipes sprung a leak underneath the slab the house was sitting on. This caused the third bedroom to be uninhabitable and the reconstruction company put a large humidifier with five heaters in the unit to dry up the leak. The noisy equipment was there for three days. The water pipe was rerouted from the garage up through the ceiling. We decided to stay there despite the inconvenience because we thought it would be more trouble to move elsewhere. Since your insurance only covers monetary lose we did not file a claim. Your insurance should also cover inconvenience caused by events beyond the insures's control. People looking for insurance should be aware of this. In addition, our return flight was scheduled for Jan 23. Due to the impending blizzard Delta Airlines was encouraging everyone flying to Harrisburg PA to change their flight plans as they could not guarantee we would be able to get home. As a result we returned a day early. I need to check whether this is a covered event.

We felt as though this review deserved a reply via email to further discuss your suggestion about covering inconveniences, and if your change in flight arrangements would potentially qualify for coverage. This review also deserves a published reply because it is very informative and will be helpful to fellow customers.

    Comprehensive travel insurance plans do cover the cost of renting pre-paid and nonrefundable properties. Plans such as the John Hancock Insurance Agency Bronze plan do provide Trip Cancellation / Trip Interruption due to a list of covered, unforeseen, emergency events. However, the customers assessment that standard Trip Cancellation / Trip Interruption coverage is not designed to cover inconveniences such as uncomfortable sleeping arrangements or broken pipes is correct.
