The good news, I never had to use the plan. I do have underlying health concerns so I pick a great plan. I was an insurance agent for 33 years and sold some of product during that period. Our agency had our retirement plan with JH and I was the active administrator.

My flight was cancelled and no flights were available for this and the following days. I didn't get any refund from airline for the cancelation because it was connected flight. We rented a car and drove 16 hours to get home next day. I filed the claim and got a full refund for car rental and other expenses on the way back. Claim was paid within 2 months. I would use this insurance again.

Thankfully didn't need to apply for coverage but was extremely satisfied with policy features and InsureMyTrip's email communication in prep for my departure etc.

My husband was admitted to hospital a day after we landed in London, on second day of our trip . We had already checked in for the next flight. It wasn't easy to find how to infirm you but I did so by email.

It was nearly impossible to figure out how to actually file a claim. But I persisted, and it has now been paid.

Claim was all by email and attached files. Eventually a check came for cruise part with some asterisks stating a letter would be sent about the medical part. No letter ever arrived! Eventually i sent another email and the claim was processed.

The best plan is one you don’t use which was the case. I had to use one in the past due to my mother going into the hospital. The fact that I had the insurance provided a great savings. I require international health insurance as I am on Medicare. I will continue to purchase policies that cover health and inadvertent cancellation coverage because of what happened in the past.

An important part of the insurance for me is evacuation fron the point of incident. This is not readily apparent in any of your policy descriptions. I suggest that you add this to your policy descriptions.

Probably could skip trip cancellation costs...good idea though to have emergency medical evacuation coverage

The John Hancock Insurance Agency calculates their Comprehensive Plan premiums based on the cost of trip, age of traveler and length of trip. Of course, you may decide to reduce your premium by not insuring your trip cost, but first, ask yourself these questions.

    "• Are you hyper-aware of the cost of your travel arrangements?
    • Are you concerned an injury or illness of you or a loved one may affect your trip?
    • Are you traveling during a heightened risk of severe weather, like the holidays or hurricane season?
    • Does your trip include prepaid nonrefundable expenses such as cruises, tours, flights, home rentals, car rentals or event tickets?"

    If your answer to any of these questions is yes, then you should consider covering the cost of your trip.

I filed a claim because one day of my trip was rerouted due to security problems in Ethiopia and I incurred a loss. I received the maximum daily allowance for this itinerary change from John Hancock. When I called John Hancock about the claim, once in Ethiopia and once when I got home, each time the agent was courteous and competent. After sending my documentation, the check arrived in about 2 weeks.
