The Silver plan is the mid-level policy offered by John Hancock and may be ideal for families traveling with children, as kids 17 and under are free as long as one parent is covered under the plan. Coverage is offered if you have to cancel or interrupt your trip for a typical covered reason which can range from an unforeseen illness, injury or death to your destination being made uninhabitable by a natural disaster. The Silver plan does offer higher limits of coverage than the Bronze plan for Baggage, Travel Delay, Medical and Emergency Medical Evacuation.

We had no claim, but I gave it five stars because everything else was perfect. I particularly liked the peace of mind of having a medical insurance ID card and an insurance number to call. That could save a lot of grief at an emergency room. I am happy to post a favorable review, but you should give much higher weight to reviews with a claim. I read them, and I liked what I saw.

Missed a trip in Sept due to flooded home after hurricane Harvey, Filed a claim for myself and traveling companion, He received a phone call about the claim and a prompt repayment check. I have yet to hear from John Hancock or Seven Corners the entity that handles claims. I have sent 2 e mails to 7 Corners and 1 to John Hancock without a reply from either.
I cannot find a customer service number to call either company, all the numbers listed are for emergency care with stern warnings not to bother them with other things, HELP, HELP PLEASE!!!!!!! Insure my trip responded promptly and John Hancock sent a check for the full amount. Thanks to customer care at INSUREMYTRIP

Thankfully I didn't have cause to use this insurance so I don't know how they would pay off a claim. I can say that it gave me a great feeling of security during my trip to Canada. Canada has socialized medical which means foreigners have to pay as you go for medical treatments. This plan became my primary coverage while in Canada and relieved a lot of worry about how to pay medical if I were to get sick or injured while in Canada. I would definitely buy this plan again .

I can't comment on how well the plan covered my medical expenses since I had no claim. Until you have a claim I believe you don't know how good a plan is. I needed a plan to cover helicopter skiing and this one was reported to do so.

The John Hancock Silver plan does cover helicopter skiing with the inclusion of the Hazardous Sports Option. This rider, when added to the policy for an additional premium, provides coverage for "leisure and non-professional sports activities in: bungee cord jumping; rock climbing; mountain climbing up to 4,572 meters (15,000 feet), scuba diving for Qualified Divers up to a maximum depth of 40 meters (131 feet) and for Unqualified Divers up to a maximum depth of 30 meters (98 feet), white or black water rafting (Grades 1-4), back country or off-trail skiing or snowboarding (except as designated unsafe by the resort management), parachuting or skydiving, helicopter skiing, extreme skiing or snowboarding; spelunking or caving.Jan 13,2016
