Travel Insurance Reviews John Hancock Insurance Agency, Inc. Silver

The Silver plan is the mid-level policy offered by John Hancock and may be ideal for families traveling with children, as kids 17 and under are free as long as one parent is covered under the plan. Coverage is offered if you have to cancel or interrupt your trip for a typical covered reason which can range from an unforeseen illness, injury or death to your destination being made uninhabitable by a natural disaster. The Silver plan does offer higher limits of coverage than the Bronze plan for Baggage, Travel Delay, Medical and Emergency Medical Evacuation.

Value for the money spent. Service/support was easy to reach and accommodated our requests. We have used this Hancock Silver plan before and would readily use them again.

Didn't file a claim, but I did have to alter the time period of coverage, and John Hancock was good about adjusting that.

I just arrived home and received the paperwork. Agent Brad was very professional and immediately sent the forms to me in order to file the claim.

Since I had no claims I cannot comment on how responsive the company is. I had a damaged suitcase and it was not covered by this plan, only issue traveling.

I had a high level of confidence in my trip coverage - which I did not need to call on, and that's good.

The best travel insurance offers good and appropriate coverage at a reasonable price...then goes unused because your insured trip goes really well and you don't need to file a claim.

Thankfully, I didn't need to use the insurance coverage, but it gave me peace of mind knowing that if something happened I would be covered. I will always use this when traveling out of the country.

The plan seemed comprehensive but thankfully we had a wonderful trip and did not need to file a claim. That's the best thing about insurance---it's there if you need it but we're so glad we didn't have any claim to file. Win/Win in my opinion!

UPDATE TO BELOW COMPLAINT: SEVEN CORNERS corrected the error, a senior account manager called me a couple times apologizing and promising to have everything corrected, my full claim was paid, he had my check sent by Fed Ex overnight since I was leaving the country in a couple days and followed up to make sure everything came out ok. The way they corrected their error was excellent, so I've changed my one-star review to a five-star review. I believe doing the right thing quickly and with an apology when an error is shown deserves credit. I would now insure through John Hancock and Seven Corners again.
ORIGINAL COMPLAINT: I DID file a claim as a result of a nationwide labor strike in France that interrupted travel twice (a covered risk) throughout the country for a very important business trip. I filed my claim for a few hundred dollars with Seven Corners Claims, as required by John Hancock Ins., promptly and with complete documentation (I've been through a French labor strike in 2010 so went through this process before). A couple weeks after the claim had been received, the web site showed it had still not been assigned to anyone. When I checked again 2 MONTHS after Seven Corners received it, the web site showed my claim was for $1 and was "closed." I called and spoke to a nice woman who acknowledged receipt of the documents and would expedite handling. A week later (now over 2 months), it is still not handled. The last time I insured through an Allianz policy and was reimbursed within a few weeks, they were ready for claims related to the French labor strikes. I travel a lot and always buy through insuremytrip, have had two prior claims with no problems getting reimbursed, but this is the first time dealing with John Hancock and Seven Corners. NEVER AGAIN! My claim is still pending, but I will fight for payment. I know insurance coverage requirements and this is covered under my policy. For anyone who does not know how to fight over insurance claims, be careful of Seven Corners and John Hancock! You might want to look elsewhere for travel insurance. They should fire whoever handled my claim that way.

We did not file a claim. However, when one of our bags was lost for for 30 hours by the airline, I expected this to be covered by the "delayed" baggage protection, only to find that since we had returned home, it was not covered, since the insurer explained that this bag was not delayed, but lost. To me, the bag was delayed. When I called the Insurer to discuss our lost bag, I was told that the plan would only cover the loss AFTER the airline paid for the loss and we retrieved the appropriate paperwork from the airline, filed all paperwork, and only then our trip insurance would pay the difference if there was any, between the amount the airline paid and what our insurance covered for a lost bag. This was disappointing. I purchased insurance coverage expecting it NOT to be a secondary payout. And a delayed bag is a delayed bag. Period. Eventually the bag turned up. It was a hassle, it took my time to figure out what was happening with the airline and the insurance company, and in the end, I don't think the insurance was worth it and I would not recommend.
