The only thing that I found cumbersome, and didn't particularly like, was that I could not go directly to Nationwide Mutual Insurance but had to go through Insure My Trip customer care for changes.

We had a trip date change, on a couple of occasions, and I would have preferred to go directly through Nationwide rather than have to contact Insure My Trip who then contacted Nationwide.

    Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for your feedback. We hope you enjoyed your vacation.

While you certainly could have reached out to Nationwide directly with the change requests, it is preferred that all policy change requests go through InsureMyTrip if you purchased with us. This allows us to properly facilitate and document your requests so we may closely monitor them.

If you have any further questions or concerns, our team of representatives are here 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Our team can be reached by phone at 800-487-4722 or by email at [email protected].

Purchased a plan on 3/5/2020 for a dream trip to Norway. We put together an itinerary including Flights to UK, cruise to Norway from Southhampton and then Cruise to New York on Queen Mary 2. Today was the date on which we had to make the final payment on the cruises. Since the cruise was not until August We thought we might be able to rely on the travel insurance in case one of the cruise lines or the airline cancelled part of the trip. Just to be sure, I called Nationwide customer service to make sure we would be covered. Imagine my surprise to find out that if any of the cancellations were due to coronavirus it would not be covered because it was not a listed peril on the policy. The customer service representative explained that unless the reason for trip cancellation or delay was due to a listed peril in the policy then it was not covered.

An example: The policy states "The company will reimburse you if your miss your connection due to inclement weather" they will reimburse you for expenses and pre-paid nonrefundable trip payments fr the unused portion of your trip. However if the flight is cancelled due to mechanical problems you are up the creek, because that is not a listed peril.

So this is not really insurance, it is a guessing game to see if your crystal ball works well enough to figure out what could possibly go wrong months in advance of your trip and then find a policy from some company that covers all of the stuff you came up with. Good luck with that.

Basically unless you are injured or fall ill or heaven forbid die, due to an unforeseen incident and not related to any of the page full of exclusions, you are covered. If your flight is delayed or canceled due to weather you are covered. Anything else - tough luck.

So it looks like we will get a cruise credit for the cruise portion of the trip and the airlines are also offering free changes for most flights. Nationwide has "voucher program" which MAY offer partial credit to transfer some or all of the cost of your unused travel policy to a future trip. I must say I'm not expecting much after speaking to their "customer service" people.

I'm sure glad automobile and life insurance is better than travel insurance. I think it should be called something else.

I had to cancel my travel plans due to an injury. My claim was handled professionally and very quickly. I would highly recommend both the company and the plan.

We had an incident with our rental car, that wasn’t included in our regular auto insurance, of course we declined the Rental agency’s coverage, thinking we had the best and when we purchased the travel insurance we didn’t get the coverage for Rental Car. Since this was our first time getting travel insurance, we now know better! I was however grateful for the help of the travel insurance agent, as she directed us to contact our credit card company for the coverage we needed! Thank you for the help provided and saving the rest of our trip!

Did not need to use it so don't know how it would have worked. Purchasing the policy just provided peace of mind.

When we filed a plan for trip interruption, they did eventually pay but their communication was terrible (basically none) and it took longer than promised. The payout was less than half of what we claimed based on how they classified it so it wasn't overall a great experience. You can't say it was clearly wrong but it wasn't a very satisfying handling of the claim.

I believe it is unconscionable that in order to waive the pre-existing condition requirement, you have to buy the insurance plan within 1-2 weeks after initial deposit. This is a rip-off. If you book a year in advance of the cruise, Nationwide gets to play with your money for a year, for free. Nice.

A small price to pay for peace of mind when cruising! Not having this insurance coverage when taking a cruise outside of the U.S., when your normal insurance company will not cover you, is like driving without car insurance. We don't plan on having accidents, but if you do then it is a huge comfort knowing that you will be financially covered for any huge expenditures! I will never take a cruise again without this excellent, affordable coverage!
