Assistance is available 24/7 for arranging a medical transport, medical or dental referrals, pre-trip planning, and concierge services. If you are hospitalized during your trip and need to be transported, On Call will make arrangements to get you from the initial treatment facility to a hospital of your choice, as long as all transportation requirements are met.

Thankfully, I did not need to use this plan but was impressed that I received text messages en route verifying plan coverage, which I felt would be helpful going through Customs. I had health insurance that covered everything but evacuation so this fit my needs.

Had I known that my newly initiated MD/VIP physician's program had a better annual offer for about the same premium that single trip coverage offered, I would have gone with it. However, this coverage appeared fair given the risk.

I didn't need to use the policy coverage. So there's no way I can be dissatisfied. Better to report the satisfaction of those who filed a claim!

Fortunately, we did not have to use On Call International's coverage, but we did try to contact them while in Ecuador. For some reason, we had trouble calling collect to On Call, but after we brought this to their attention by email, they were more than happy to call us at our hotel telephone. Overall, we were glad for the piece of mind that this policy/membership gave us while we were abroad.

Since we didn't have to use the plan, I can't review how helpful it was. But I did think the price was reasonable, the service was great, and it seemed very professional. Just knowing that we had this evacuation only plan was comforting, as we were climbing over rocky terrain (big boulders) and one misstep could result in a bad ankle or shoulder, or worse. We were in the Galapagos, where rescue operations could be very costly, and I would recommend some kind of plan for anyone traveling there. But, as I said .... we never had to use it, and that's where the proof of the pudding lies.
