On the 1st day of our arrival in UK, my NorthFace jacket was lost/stolen while on platform of London subway. When I returned home, I filed a claim with RoamRight for the replacement cost of the jacket (less than $100). I received 1 email saying the claim was filed and requesting proof of trip itinerary, which I furnished immediately. The claims department has been unresponsive since that. After making about a 6 or 7 phone calls, I was told my claims representative no longer worked for RoamRight. I was provided the first name of the claims representative who was now assigned to my claim. I requested to have my call directed to the new claims representative or their voicemail, but was told they cannot receive incoming calls (??). I asked that the claims representative call me, and was promised on 3 separate occasions she would call me. I never received a single call ! A week later, I received an email asking me to provide proof that I filed a report of my loss with my tour company, hotel or police. There was no tour company, and the hotel was not involved. Anyone who even looked at my claim submission would realize that. I again contacted RoamRight and asked to speak to my assigned claims representative or their voicemail once again. I was again told that was not possible. I asked the person taking the calls if the policy had specific language requiring a police report in order to pay claims. Of course, I got not answer or explanation.

I have made over a dozen phone calls to claims department, have been lied to 3 times by being promised a return call from my claims representative and just generally ignored. To date (after 2 1/2 months), I have received 2 emails only. It seems the policy of RoamRight is too ignore claims until the policy holders just wear out and give up.

I would not recommend anyone purchase a RoamRight policy.

I have purchased other policies here at insuremytrip.com and had to make a sizable medical treatment claim on one policy. Working with the claims department on that loss (not a RoamRight policy) was straightforward, honest and fairly quick. The experience with RoamRight has been dishonest, evasive, and consisted of misleading communications.

    The Arch RoamRight Essential policy has the following information in the certificate:
    "For Baggage and Personal Effects and Baggage Delay:
    In case of lost, stolen, damaged, destroyed or delayed Baggage and Personal Effects, You must:
    a) take all necessary and reasonable steps to protect, save or recover the property;
    b) notify, within 48 hours of the loss in writing, the police, hotel proprietors, ship lines, airlines, railroad, bus, airport or other station authorities, tour operators or group leaders, or any Common Carrier or bailee who has custody of Your property at the time of loss;"

This review is hard to write. The plan was very reasonably priced. I chose to use this as opposed to the cruise lines protection plan for mainly two reasons. Reason 1) you get cash in the event of a cancellation as opposed to a "future cruise credit". Additionally, it was cheaper. Of course, I didn't plan on using the insurance, just like I haven't in the past. Unfortunately, I had to use the cancel for any reason option. It took about 4 weeks after I submitted the claim and I got an email stating they needed an additional document. I submitted it within a few days. It took an additional 5 weeks to get the claim processed and paid. I called a couple times and the hold time for a representative was around an hour. I didn't wait. Logic tells you if they phones are busy, the representatives are busy answering the phone, not paying claims. So I didn't want to contribute to the delay. I did end up speaking to a representative when wait times were low, she was very nice, and she said the claim should be processed in a few days. I waited about 10 days and called back. Wait times were low, spoke to a different very nice female. She said she would follow up and email me the next day. I did not hear back. However the following day from when I should have heard back (so 2 days after the call) I got an automated email and the claim was processed. The check was obviously mailed the same day as I got the check 2 days after the email.

In short, the value is great, customer service is nice. Long wait times on the phone and long processing times for the claim. For the value, I would consider using again if they remain the best bang for the buck compared to others. If the prices start lining up with other companies, I would likely use someone else.

I'm home from a very successful trip. . . beautiful scenery, shore excursions with history lessons, good travel mates, excellent New England lobstah, and on-time flights without lost luggage. Best of all, no need to file an insurance claim with Roam Rite Essential, but knowing I had the coverage gave this 71-year-young traveler the peace of mind I sought while away from home.

Our policy seemed expensive at the time of purchase, but having the peace of mind that we were covered was more important than the price. I am happy that we didn't need to use the insurance. Traveling without it is foolish, in my opinion.

Fortunately, we did not need to use the insurance plan. We have never had to use insurance for any of our travels ( all 7 continents) however the peace of mind is important. Expensive, but precautionary. The final leg of this trip was on a cruise ship. In two ports, there were ambulances pulled up to the ship to take off passengers before the rest of the cruise passengers were allowed to depart. Not us, but a reminder of the need for insurance for medical emergencies, if needed.

While I (thankfully) did not use this plan I would never travel without medical and air evacuation insurance. Not having used the insurance, I can't comment on the ease of filing a claim but the coverage was good and the companies rating was high and the cost was very reasonable.

    Cancel for Any Reason (CFAR), which is an optional coverage that is available in some plans for an additional premium, allows you to cancel your trip prior to departure for other than a covered reason. There are 3 conditions that must be met to purchase a Cancel For Any Reason Rider as follows: Purchase the policy within 10-21 days of First Trip Payment; Insure ALL prepaid and non-refundable travel expenses prior to departure; Trip must be canceled more than 2-3 days prior to departure date. If you meet all 3 of these conditions, most of the policies will reimburse you for 50% to 75% of your trip costs depending on the plan you select.

    Although it may appear to be expensive, CFAR does reimburse you with a check while most cruise lines provide you only with a voucher for a future trip.
